I came to a new realization today, 1/27/23. I do not HAVE to pass the car in front of me! I can slow down, relax and get to my destination safely and on time. Americans are all in a big hurry. At the grocery, at the restaurant, at the intersection, we rush to get anywhere quicker. We must slow down. Most farmers that I know, including my son, don’t want much land. They just want “all land that joins their land”. It is the same with car and truck drivers on the road. I just must get around “the one ahead of me”. Are you one of those drivers? I have been one of them. I have hit the passing gear many times to get around the car ahead of me. I realized today, at 81 years of age, that I don’t necessarily have to pass that car or truck. When I thought that through, I took a deep breath and relaxed. My new High Country has the power to pass everything on the road. I resolve to slow down and “smell the roses”. Recently, I was headed to Nashville after a hunting trip to KY. In a hurry as usual, I was slowed down by a car in the left lane ahead of me. I blinked my lights several times to no avail. Blue flashing lights appeared in my rearview mirror. When the officer walked up to my vehicle, he said he had clocked me at 89 mph. After a nice discussion, I mostly listened meekly, he asked me to slow down and drive carefully. I think he was lenient because I am a veteran. Driving my new Tahoe is a dream. I resolve to slow down. Watch for me on your local highway. My truck is Pearl White. Let’s all slow down and get home safely. Have a great weekend!
