On Friday, March 27 sent a letter to urging them to adopt a Maine-First Sourcing Policy, on the heels of a public statement by Hannaford about a carrot shortage in stores while Maine-grown carrots are abundantly available. ⠀

They replied, and MOFGA is meeting with them on April 16th to discuss. 🥳

A Maine-First Sourcing Policy means committing to sourcing Maine-grown carrots (and other foods) before turning to out-of-state suppliers to fill any gaps. It also means offering sustainable contracts to farmers that reflect the true cost of local production.⠀

Sign MOFGA’s petition to show Hannaford that you want local Maine-grown food for sale on their shelves. The petition will be delivered to Hannaford during their meeting on April 16th. Sign Here ➡️⠀https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/hannaford-adopt-a-maine-first-sourcing-policy?source=direct_link&

Out here in Maine, food does not just come from a store shelf. It starts in the rocky soil and cool earth. Across rolling fields, family farms wake up before the sun rises, working through early mornings, long afternoons, and unpredictable coastal weather just to grow the food that ends up on our tables.
These farms are more than land and crops. They are generations of hard work, passed down from parents to children who learned the value of patience, resilience, and pride in what they grow. Every potato field, blueberry barrens, apple orchard, dairy barn, and vegetable patch tells a story about the people who care for it year after year.
Maine is blessed with fertile valleys, fresh water, and farmers who know how to work with the short growing season and harsh winters. From wild blueberries and potatoes to sweet corn, broccoli, apples, and dairy, our state produces an incredible variety of food right here at home.
When we support local farmers, we are not just buying food. We are supporting families, preserving traditions, and keeping communities strong. Every farmers market visit, every roadside stand, and every locally grown product helps keep these farms thriving.
Because in Maine, backing local farmers means investing in the people who feed us and the land that makes it possible.

P***a, or Pascha, Bread is an Eastern European tradition during Easter to celebrate our Lord and Savior's resurrection. To rejoice in the promise kept, and the joyousness of salvation. God is King. His mercy and grace shall be celebrated for all time!

Here is the recipe I used: https://www.meatloafandmelodrama.com/paska-bread/

The Goodale family (Karen, Bill, and Chace) from Windham, needs their community’s support. Early this morning, their home caught fire and is a total loss. Thankfully, everyone made it out. Their 14-year-old dog, Moosy (pictured), is currently at the vet being treated for burns and smoke inhalation. The vet is hopeful for a full recovery.
Right now, we are focusing on immediate needs such as clothing, hygiene items, and gift cards to Walmart, Hannaford, or local fast-food restaurants so the family can grab meals while they navigate the next few days.
They are currently in a hotel so they cannot accept the big items right now. They do plan to rebuild, but that obviously takes lots of time.

Chace, age 10, lost everything. He loves Legos, Minecraft, and Nerf guns. We already have several new Lego sets we will be gifting him this week.
