Guess what I did today! I got the cohones to go check out my husband's beehive. It is near surreal to have bees buzzing around you and thousands of working ladies crawling around the frames right in front of your eyes. The hive is super healthy and we saw the gorgeous queen πŸ‘‘ ! Yes you can see excitement to what the heck did I get myself into in the photos below 🀣 .. My husband out there kicking it like second nature, much respect for the calm he maintained. Anyone here have bees?! 🐝

I wanted to make sure we are all fully aware and educated before voting on Article 10, check out the data for yourselves here: https://ij.org/.../new-data-show-homemade-food-for-sale.../

Most importantly everyone, read the text for yourself so you know what the basis of the ordinance should be reflecting: https://www.mainelegislature.org/legis/bills/getPDF.asp?paper=SP0050&item=1&snum=132

The photo is satirical and just for fun. Laugh or look away

I spoke with Sen. Craig Hickman that sponsored Food Sovereignty at the state level, LD 124. He clarified that the idea of processed foods not being included is the exact opposite of the intention of the law. He also said that changing the ordinance is legal, and we will need to be sure to vote May 19th if we are going to ensure our food freedom and freedom to choose for our own families isn't taken away.

I am going to be speaking with Jim Libby this morning and will update afterward if that proves fruitful.

Don't forget, you can get your absentee ballot at the town office now, or vote in person May 19th 8am to 8pm. Your voice is needed and your vote matters!!

Howdy neighbors! So I have some bad news. The town "overseers" are trying to damage the food sovereignty ordinance during the 19th of May vote. Food sovereignty includes prepared foods, which is the amazing treats you buy from us and the phenomenal goods you buy from The Good Earth. Voting in favor of article 10 is voting against your local farmers. We do not need further permissions to sell eggs, maple products, grain or grain products, spices, honey, nuts, or any other product. Voting for article 10 is not furthering food freedom, it is throttling it under the guise of a longer definition. Giving the government back it's control of what is allowed instead of letting the people choose what they put in their bodies. I ask you to read the article and support your small and up and coming farmers just trying to make a living in an increasingly unaffordable and regulated state. This fight was already fought, take your hands off of our farms. Vote NO on article 10.

On Friday, March 27 sent a letter to urging them to adopt a Maine-First Sourcing Policy, on the heels of a public statement by Hannaford about a carrot shortage in stores while Maine-grown carrots are abundantly available. β €
β €
They replied, and MOFGA is meeting with them on April 16th to discuss. πŸ₯³
β €
A Maine-First Sourcing Policy means committing to sourcing Maine-grown carrots (and other foods) before turning to out-of-state suppliers to fill any gaps. It also means offering sustainable contracts to farmers that reflect the true cost of local production.β €

Sign MOFGA’s petition to show Hannaford that you want local Maine-grown food for sale on their shelves. The petition will be delivered to Hannaford during their meeting on April 16th.
