My Icing Smiles cake was posted today! I was so honored to make this for Kelly and Molly, two wonderful little girls. Thank you to Icing Smiles for all that they do!
Kelly was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a brain cancer, when she was 4 years old. She has battling her disease with all her might for the past 4.5 years. She has had over 760 rounds of chemo, 2 major brain surgeries, a port surgery, a spinal biopsy surgery that lasted 15 hours, 30 rounds of radiation and too many blood and platelet transfusions to count. She has lost the high pitch frequency in both ears requiring hearing aids and is completely blind in her left eye from the radiation. Kelly’s cancer is considered refractory, which means it does not respond to attempted forms of treatment and there is no cure.
Molly is Kelly’s younger sister and her world has been rocked by Kelly’s diagnosis. Molly and Kelly are two years apart but they are closer than any sisters can be. As Molly and Kelly’s family comes to terms with Kelly’s cancer, their mom does public speaking to raise awareness about the lack of funding towards pediatric cancers. Kelly and Molly’s birthdays are only weeks apart so they have a combined party every year – a celebration of life party.
Jaime Pozzi of The Great Cake Company in Naperville, IL accepted her call to action and created a breathtaking Strawberry Shortcake cake for Kelly and Molly. Jaime was able to help shine a light on Kelly and Molly and celebrate that they have beaten the cancer for another year. Thank you Jaime!
Happy Birthday Kelly and Molly!
