Is pop culture dead?
The short answer is yes.
The internet and social media has slowly killed pop culture. Trends do not stay trends for very long anymore. Something can be the "in" thing today, and tomorrow it can not even matter or it can just no longer be talked about anymore. Things are not staying popular long enough to keep pop culture alive.
Most trends that happen today are merely for clout or entertainment purposes and leave no lasting impact on today's culture. The current generation has killed pop culture by the way it obtains its mass media. Culture disappears as fast as the latest trends.
