Hey Vikings fans, Minnesota is on a three-game winning streak! I was in the locker room today for the Star Tribune gathering player interviews on video and here is what some of them had to say in response to their win over Detroit and their short week to prepare for Washington on Thursday night:

Minnesota has a short week to prepare to face Washington on Thursday.

Hey friends! If any of you are looking to get into photography or learn some new skills, check out Print Arts Midwest! I'm going to be teaching classes for them soon, but in the meantime they're offering all sorts of cool stuff including photo walks, classes on composition, Lightroom, and beginning digital photography. Also, the organization I'm involved with, Visual MN, has partnered with them to host our monthly speaker series. Here are some links if you want to learn more, and be sure to share with anyone you think would like to become a photo dork like me:

Alright kids! I'm not very good at this social media thing, and half the time I'm too busy for it. But I wanted to share with all of you Vikings fans out there that I'm covering the Vikings' season for the Star Tribune this year as a freelancer. I'm at almost all of training camp and will be at almost every home game producing video of all the happenings with the team.

We're putting out Access Vikings, which is a video summary of what's happening at camp from reporters Ben Goessling and Andrew Krammer almost every day, and then once the games start up I'll be doing video of post-game locker room interviews and press conferences. It's been a dream of mine to work for the Start Tribune for a long time and I was excited when they reached out to me about the gig and am proud to be producing visual content alongside their amazing staff. Not to mention they've been great to work with and are very responsive and supportive.

Here are some of the videos I've produced so far from the first week of camp:

Today was the first day of physical contact with pads for the Vikings.

Every year since its inception, I've contributed my photography work to Art 4 Shelter 2018, and now for the past four (I think?!?) years, I've helped to coordinate with getting new photographers to contribute to this great cause. I'm a little behind the ball on sharing this (although, this event hardly needs promotion because of its popularity), but tonight is the eighth annual (again, I think?!?) Art 4 Shelter, and the first year it's being held at Minneapolis Institute of Art! So, if you're looking to buy some beautiful art and support an amazing cause, come check it out! And this year, we've had the most amount of art ever donated to the show, so there will be tons of new artists to see. Lastly, I strongly recommend getting there in time for the viewing before the sale, as it's going to be packed.

It's not too often I can say I'm truly proud of something, but this is at the top of the list for 2017. My most sincerest thanks to Maya Washington and Hannah Foslien for including me in this project.

Through the Banks of the Red Cedar inspired this exciting exhibit in Minneapolis!

"Legendary" is a collaboration between Tom Baker, Hannah Foslien, and Maya Washington. The work is inspired by Maya Washington’s documentary film Through the Banks of the Red Cedar about her father, professional football legend Gene Washington, who was a member of the first fully integrated college football team in America. As pedestrians pass by, they will feel the textures of a bygone era in Minnesota history through dignified portraiture of football legends, Carl Eller, Alan Page, and Gene Washington, while considering how their physical experiences live on through today’s players. We hope that audiences of all ages will feel inspired to learn more about these pioneers and consider the impact aging and athleticism have on the body.

Made Here is presented by Hennepin Theatre Trust and sponsored by Anderson Windows. Mayo Clinic Square will be the gracious host to the artwork throughout the exhibit which will remain until early Spring.

Here's a story I shot on Tuesday for POLITICO that sheds light on the growing problems rural is experiencing with their health care under and how the community of Albert Lea is responding. It was quite interesting to talk to and photograph some of those who are being affected by the changes.

The famed medical center builds a grand main campus while consolidating services elsewhere.

On Friday night I shot the Late Night Dance Party at First Avenue, where over 1,500 Prince fans came together to dance and celebrate his life. It was a fun assignment, and I photographed and talked with people from all over the world who made the trip to Minneapolis to pay homage to the Minnesota music icon.

Prince fans celebrated the Minnesota musician's life during the Late Night Dance Party at First Avenue in Minneapolis on Friday, the anniversary of his death.

Opening next Friday at the Mpls Photo Center is a show I juried with documentary photographer Terry Gydesen entitled 'Taking Care'. Terry and I had many amazing and personal photographs to choose from. We were surprised at the intimacy and emotion of the images photographers sent in that share the most deeply private, difficult, and loving moments from their lives.

The show is opening in conjunction with Terry’s documentary work on her father’s decline from Alzheimer’s over a four year period, entitled 'Transitions. A Daughter’s Journey.' It’s a deeply reflective project, and you’ll get a first hand experience through viewing the images, as well as a film Terry made about her struggles with the process of her parents aging.

Come to the show, and you will certainly be moved!

Have you ever wondered where you can get a camel burger in Minneapolis? Have you ever wondered where the meat comes from and how it gets here? Of course you have! I had a lot of fun shooting this story on local Somali-American restaurateur Jamal Hashi and learning about his efforts to bring the taste of East Africa to Minnesota. Would you eat a camel burger?

It was shot for the Food and Environment Reporting Network in collaboration with NPR's The Salt, and local freelance writer Erica Berry did a great job writing the story.

The first time Somali-American chef Jamal Hashi put camel meat on his menu in Minneapolis, it didn’t go well. He tried grinding it into a burger and using chunks of it in a spicy stew, but no matter, the texture was bad and the sales were worse. “It was like chewing on a patty of… » Read More
