We've got big news! We are happy to announce a new relationship with Indiana Landmarks as we move forward with a 50-year lease followed by two back-to-back 25-year leases of the historic Depot train station. Yes, that means 100 more years of regional art, history, and community connection!
Indiana Landmarks helps communities reimagine, rescue, and revive meaningful places. The Beverly Shores Depot Museum and Art Gallery (BSMAG) is such a place.
More than 35 years ago, the last remaining 1920s train depot of the South Shore Line was slated for demolition. Thanks to dedicated local supporters led by Carol Ruzic, The Depot now appears on the National Register of Historic Places.
It houses a history museum, boutique art gallery, gift shop, and a vital and dynamic cultural and community center. Our relationship with Indiana Landmarks, developed over three years of collaboration, will help ensure that The Depot, as it is affectionally known, continues to serve the local community and represent a ‘Gateway to the Dunes’. Indiana Landmarks will inform and guide the BSMAG Board on an as-requested basis and provide access to grants and other forms of assistance.
Please join us on September 12 starting at 5 pm, as we celebrate this new partnership with food and drinks. In addition, we'll have tributes to Carol Ruzic, longtime board member and champion of the Depot, on the occasion of what would have been her 97th birthday. We're also debuting an exhibit about her contributions to the Depot and the town.
We're also debuting a fantastic fiber arts exhibit, featuring some of the area's most talented fiber artists. It's sure to be a great evening!
