Today we honor our fallen heroes. As a military family, we know the impact of the sacrifice that the fallen have made. I pray every time my husband and daughter have an assignment that they stay safe and mentally intact. It is a huge price to pay to dedicate your life to the military but they do it with pride and honor and as their family we are their biggest cheerleaders.

What an amazing day! This is our second market day with the Hendersonville Farmers & Artisan Market. We met so many amazing new customers and a couple returning ones. My friends came by and supported our business and best of all I get to do this with my best friend aka my husband. I couldn’t have been more blessed today.

Baking and cooking in general is an art form; and it’s subjective right? As a creator we put everything we’ve got into the food we make and it’s nerve wrecking that it may not invoke the same feelings you get when you make it. Today confirmed for me that we are on the right path spreading love and breaking bread with our community. Thank you to everyone that stopped by our booth and showed love. It means the world to me.

As a Puerto Rican, not having sofrito in the fridge is like the sun not rising in the morning. It is a much needed staple in our cooking. Can we make our dishes without it? Yeah sure, but we would need to spend time chopping, mincing and sautéing green peppers, onions, garlic, cilantro, and culantro in our stews, soups, rice and bean dishes. Though it is used all around the Caribbean, in Puerto Rico, we call it “recaito”. The pungent herb recao (aka culantro) and ajíes dulces (sweet chili peppers) are the contributing flavor profiles to recaito. I can’t wait for the community to taste the dishes that I incorporate in.

Coquito is Puerto Rico’s signature cocktail. It is usually reserved for the holiday however in the spirit of I went ahead and made a summer friendly version…our very own “Limber de Coco”. Limber de Coco is a Puerto Rican style coconut ice cream made with coconut milk, evaporated milk, coconut cream, shredded coconut, vanilla and cinnamon. It’s the non-alcoholic version of the coquito and perfect for this summer heat! My grandmother used to make them in ice cube trays when we were little. In Puerto Rico they are made in little cups with popsicle sticks or as push pops. We are still debating if we are going to be adding them to the menu as transport can be an issue. Let us know in the comments if you want to see it added.

Finally…our (cheese pastries) are on the menu. It’s the perfect ratio of puff pastry and sweet cream cheese coated in a honey simple syrup. It is sticky and flaky and oh so good.
