Today I am making all the parts for a German Chocolate Cake for my husband’s birthday. As I was making it, I was reminded of the same cake my mom, Pat, made for my son’s 10th birthday. She was so embarrassed because it fell apart—but she gave it to him anyway, and he was over the moon because Gramma had made him a birthday cake! We affectionately called it the ‘Patty Cake.’
There is a joy in baking when we do it for people we care about and love. Very often our ‘failures’ end up being the most cherished memories because they are so human and heartfelt. Even if what you create is imperfect, it is still just right.

Today I was cleaning up my bakery storage and happened upon these flyers I’d made in the early days of starting my bakery!

Did you know that:
🌴CocoTiki Bread Co. began life as🪻The Periwinkle Bakery?
☀️ I only used to sell two months out of the year?
👦🏻That my son used to help me at the market?
👩🏻‍🍳That everything I made was baked entirely in my one home oven?

🌎A lot has changed since I started baking, but sometimes change brings you closer to the things that make you happiest. Embracing change helps you to grow. Even if that change seems like it’s making your world a bit smaller, it’s actually opening it up for new things to come into it.

A “GREAT BIG THANK YOU!” to everyone who came out and supported not only Miami’s Last Saturday event—but me, too!

Despite the windy, yucky-looking day, having so many of you seek me out—not only to buy bread but also because you were genuinely happy to see me—made my whole week!
I truly appreciate ALL of my customers. Many of you have stuck by me throughout the past several years, and quite a few of you have even grown into wonderful friends I always look forward to seeing 😊.

A special thank you goes out to Peggy Keagy, not only for making the trek up to Globe from the Valley with her husband, Raun, but for listening to and laughing with my dad as he talked about my mom. You have no idea how much that meant to him—69 years together was a long time, and you listening was truly a gift. We’ll hold your place at “the wedding” for the next time he sees you! Your kindness was priceless to us both 🙏.
