Our thoughts are with those affected in this Tragic Incident. prayers for those affected as well as with the families. Words are not enough, we will pray for all those involved.

The U.S. Wildland Fire Service is devastated to share that three wildland firefighters lost their lives on Saturday, June 27, as part of an interagency response to the Knowles and Gore fires along the Colorado-Utah border. Additionally, two crew members were injured in the line of duty and have been transported to a hospital.

Our immediate focus is on supporting their families, friends, and fellow crewmates during this incredibly difficult time.

The U.S. Wildland Fire Service stands united with the USDA Forest Service in grief and in our unwavering support for the loved ones left behind. Their bravery, dedication, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Additional details will be shared as they are able to be released.

𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲: At 12:01 a.m. on Thursday (June 11), the fire danger will increase to moderate (blue). The Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) will remain at one.

ODF announced that the combination of ongoing drying vegetation and rising heat is increasing fire danger and prompting the shift to moderate on Thursday.

Last year we planted 22 million+ trees with partners like National Forest Foundation, American Forests, Arbor Day Foundation, and One Tree Planted, contributing nearly $8 million toward seedlings and reforesting 285,000+ acres.

𝙉𝙊𝙏 𝙁𝙄𝙍𝙀 𝙎𝙀𝘼𝙎𝙊𝙉 𝙔𝙀𝙏: The Oregon Department of Forestry Central Oregon District is entering fire season today, but fire season has not yet been declared by the Southwest Oregon District here in Jackson and Josephine counties.

Each district is charged with declaring fire season on their protected lands due to the vastly different vegetation, elevation and weather conditions across the state. While temperatures have been heating up, conditions locally haven’t reached the thresholds we typically look for when declaring the start of the season. These factors include weather, vegetation moisture levels and fire potential.

Our firefighters are prepared to respond to any new fire starts, and when fire weather conditions become aligned and consistent, the ODF Southwest Oregon District will declare fire season in Jackson and Josephine counties. Until then, no fire danger levels or regulations are in place.
