Iâm exhausted, my kitchen is a disaster, and I think I need to sleep for approximately three business days⌠but mostly, Iâm just really grateful.
Thank you to every single person who came out to Mama Pearson's Fall Fest, stopped at my table, bought something, told someone about me, called loved ones with excitement in your voice, came back for a favorite, or trusted me enough to try something new.
And a huge thank you to Mama Pearson for thinking of me when there was a last-minute cancellation and giving Golden Matter a spot at this yearâs Fall Fest. The opportunity has opened doors, and started relationships I didnât know existed.
I donât talk about the âwhyâ behind Golden Matter very often, but this little bakery started during a time when my life looked completely different than I thought it would.
My own health took a front seat out of nowhere and so suddenly the career path I had been on wasnât really an option anymore. At the same time, Iâm a mom raising a big, beautifully neurodivergent family, and I needed something that allowed me to make an income while still being present for my kids, taking care of myself, and working around a life that doesnât always fit neatly into a 9 to 5.
At first, baking like this was honestly just survival mode. I had to remove so many things from my diet that I missed being able to just eat something GOOD. Not âgood for gluten-free.â Not âpretty good considering it doesnât have dairy or eggs.â I wanted the kind of food where you take a bite and forget itâs missing anything at all.
Then I started sharing it.
And somewhere along the way, this became so much bigger than me having yummy things to eat again.
Now I get to meet people from all walks of life⌠People who have a space with me to be vulnerable. Whether to share their stories, intolerances, allergies, parents trying to find something their child can finally have, people dealing with health issues that completely changed the way they eat. I get it. I live it. I relate.
And there is something really special about watching someone realize, âWait⌠I can have this?â
Of watching a little boy light up because heâs celiac and excited to be able to have one of my brownies and enjoy something like other kids. Watching a girl almost cry because thereâs gluten free everywhere⌠but she can never find gluten and egg free together.
You get to walk around a festival holding a muffin or a cookie like everybody else. You get to have the treat. You get to feel normal for a minute. And I didnât realize when I started how much that part would mean to me.
So when you buy from Golden Matter, yes, youâre supporting my little bakery. But youâre also slowly helping me build a life where I can take care of my family, work with the body I have now, and keep turning something that started during a really difficult chapter into something Iâm incredibly proud of.
Thank you for letting me bake for you. Thank you for telling your friends. Thank you for coming back. And thank you for slowly helping me make this little dream of mine real.
I am SO excited for the future of Golden Matter Bakery. Stick with me. I have so much I canât wait to eventually share with you all. đ¤
