Portugal was a DREAM.

On one of my many walks into Porto, I came across a piece that can be found in almost all jewelry shops. It is called the viana bead. It was purchased by young women through the money they made working on farms and selling the goods from their work. It signifies independence, security and worth. These gold beads hold meaning and are handcrafted in Portugal. Visit the website to view some of the pieces purchased.

PORTO was a dream. A city that was busy yet quiet, a place for gatherings with amazing food and wine, surrounded by friendly faces around each corner and scents that evoke a belly grumble even when you are not hungry as well as scents that bring you calm and joy.

We packed in a lot and really felt immersed into the culture. Of course, I brought back a few made in Portugal finds that I picked up from a small stand in the Duoro Valley during a day trip.

It’s a fun gift for summer hosts.

Fun facts: gurgling water jugs were invented in the 1870’s. A special pair was made for the Queen and Prince Philip in 1958. This is how the jugs became popular. They are handmade and they emit a bubbly sound when you pour. It can be used a pitcher (for wine too), vase or utensil holder.
