What a day it has been! Let me fill you in on what’s been happening over here.
This morning I woke up at 3, like any other bake day. I started by loading my oven with my first batch of loaves. It went okay, but browned the tops slightly more than my liking.
Second round I put in immediately, nothing unusual. My timer went off and I temped my loaves. All of them hit just above 110 degrees, at this point they should be somewhere between 190 and 200. I let them go a little longer and pulled them once they hit temp. When I went to take them from the pans the bottoms were so soft, they stuck and ripped off.
I thought okay, maybe I put them in too quickly after my first round. So I moved on to bagels. All my bagels came out golden on top, perfect, nothing unusual. So I baked all of them 😫. BIG MISTAKE! Once I removed them from the pan I noticed they too had too soft of bottoms.
It is now just before 8 am and I had enough. I call my husband and of course he tells me not to bake anything else. We get to talking, we think the top heating element or thermostat sensor. He tells me to hunt down parts. Then my brother comes over takes apart my whole oven, and it ends up being the bottom baking element, inside of the oven itself. It’s literally broke (or burnt) in half.
We decided I would pack up all my stuff, head to his house and continue my baking there. Although this was a great thought, it would end up being another mistake. A new (to you) oven, comes with its own set of challenges and I was having a hard time figuring it out. I baked what I could, saved what I could, and reached out to those I had to.
With all this being said stock for this weekend is EXTREMELY limited, to cookies and focaccia. This of course is not how I planned for our second weekend open to go. The plan is to have the oven fixed or at least the parts by Wednesday.
I am feeling tired, a little defeated, but hopeful for better bake days to come.
Have a great weekend all. We’re off to the ball field! ⚾️
