Nobody brags about making goulash. They just notice the pot is empty.

Old-Fashioned Goulash

Cook 2 cups dry elbow macaroni and drain. Meanwhile, brown 1 pound ground beef with 1 chopped onion, then add 2 minced garlic cloves. Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Let the sauce simmer for 15 minutes before folding in the macaroni.

Nothing expensive. Nothing complicated. Just the thick, beefy supper people remember being served straight from the pot.
