100 years ago, on April 24, 1915, several hundred leaders and intellectuals of the Armenian communities in Ottoman Turkey were rounded up and massacred. This marked the beginning of the Armenian Genocide. Over 1.5 million Armenians died as the result of executions, massacres, starvation and other repressive measures, and many fled to the United States and other countries. Even today, the Turkish government has yet to acknowledge the Genocide and other atrocities committed against the Armenian people.
