With a heavy heart I have to announce that I will not be selling as a regular vendor at the Downtown Lee's Summit farmers market this year. This decision has not been made lightly, but with much soul searching and looking at the future - both mine and my family's. I will still take special orders and may show up as a daily vendor at the market when I can. I am exploring some other options with the business to indulge my passion for food at a later date, and I will keep you all informed when that time comes. For now, please know that I will miss all of you very very much. Maybe you will see me at the market as a customer - because I will be there for all the great local produce - just not for selling my own items. Love you all! - Anna

ANNOUNCEMENT: Due to health reasons beyond my control I will not be available this holiday season for special orders. I received emergency surgery Sunday morning to remove my appendix and my gall bladder, and also found out that I have a congenital heart problem that needs to be treated. I will recover from all of this, but I will need to put my passion for baking aside until next year, when I will see all of you again at the farmers market. Thanks for being such great customers!

Hi, guys. Got some not good news. What I thought was a sprained or dislocated toe turned out to be a pretty bad break. The doctor put me in a boot and told me stay off my feet for four weeks! So no more market this month... But I will still take pie orders for Thanksgiving. Love you all.

Hope you all had a happy Halloween! There will be a market tomorrow, and I will be there with my treats.

Pies and tarts: Sugar cream, pecan, and pumpkin (tarts only on the pumpkin)
Coffee cakes: chocolate stout, sour cream
Cookies: chocolate chip, chocolate crinkle, oatmeal raisin, snickerdoodle, molasses ginger, sunflower, cranberry pistachio
Scones: pear
Breads: spotted dog, banana, banana nut, chocolate zucchini, lemon zucchini, apple spice

No lunch items this week (sorry, folks)... and if I'm moving slowly tomorrow, please be patient. I hurt my foot this week and I have a bit of a zombie shuffle thing going on right now, hence the lack of empanadas this week.

Hope you all brave the cold and come see us!

Well, everybody, I will be at the market this Saturday, but I will be moving slower than usual. I sorta kinda dislocated my toe when I accidentally kicked a box. I'm still baking this week, but not as much as usual.

Back to market tomorrow morning! I had a nice weekend off with family in Indiana last week. But it was back to work this week - and lots of good stuff for you to eat this week.

Sugar Cream pie is an Indiana treat (my Dad's favorite pie, and my great grandma's recipe), so I decided to make it for you guys this week. It's a vanilla cream pie sprinkled with cinnamon and butter and then put under the broiler until the top is caramelized. Yummy!

Also a new empanada and a new bread this week! Apple spice bread is replacing the zucchini spice bread for fall. The new empanada is called blanco y negro (black and white) - seasoned black beans, and Monterey jack cheese with a little of Jim and Rita's salsa inside.

And one more thing - Chocolate stout bundt cake slices. Decadent.

So, this week's menu:
Pies and tarts: pumpkin, pecan, and sugar cream
Coffee cakes: sour cream, chocolate stout
Scones: pear, pumpkin white chocolate
Cookies: chocolate chip, chocolate crinkles, snickerdoodles, oatmeal raisin, sunflower, cranberry pistachio, molasses ginger
Breads: spotted dog, apple spice, lemon zucchini, chocolate zucchini, banana, banana nut
Empanadas: Espinaca de Cubana, Blanco y Negro, and Apple-Pecan-Brie

Everyone's love of the cranberry pistachio cookies came out in the shape of a heart... feel the love.

We still have a few Saturdays left before the market closes - and there is still a lot of local produce available for purchase. And amazing baked stuff - did I mention I am a baker?

One benefit to the cooler temperatures is that I start bringing my pumpkin and pecan pies to market. This week I have both. The pecan pie is so tempting. I always want to drink the filling when I make it. It's that good. And no corn syrup! (But it does have whiskey, but that is a GOOD thing, trust me.)

A new empanada this week, too - apple, pecan, and brie with just a little brown sugar. My mother in law and I both decided it's a keeper.

So, this week's selections are:
Pies and Tarts: Apple, Pumpkin, Pecan
Coffee Cakes: Lemon poppy seed, sweet potato pumpkin
Scones: Pumpkin white chocolate, bacon onion cheese, and cranberry mandarin orange
Cookies: Chocolate chip, chocolate crinkle, oatmeal raisin, snickerdoodle, sunflower, cranberry pistachio, molasses ginger
Breads: Bannock, spotted dog, zucchini spice, lemon zucchini, chocolate zucchini, cardamom carrot, banana, banana nut
Empanadas: Cuban spinach, potato cheese, apple pecan brie
and apple dumplings

It looks like fall in my kitchen today! Pumpkin pies, pecan pies, and apple dumplings. It smells amazing in here.
