Hi friends! Penny’s Pie Shop will not be at the market this weekend 8/9. This was truly such a hard decision for me to make as I’m so bummed to miss you and truly hate disappointing you, but I need a little time to regroup and organize my brain and focus on family for a beat. Big things coming in the second half of August! I’m so excited to be able to get more pie to you soon. We will be back on 8/23!

Full disclosure - You might still catch a glimpse of me with my family there to get our groceries! Please say hi and know if I’m extra awkward (if that’s even possible) it’s cause I’m (slightly) racked with guilt 🙃. Thank you for sticking with me while I figure out how to balance all of life with Penny’s at the same time. More to come soon, I promise!

My favorite part of the day was reading this book by with the kids in the middle of the commotion. I teared up thinking about the challenge of raising kind kids. While we try our best to model (very imperfectly in my case) what it means to be kind, generous, and open hearted, sometimes I feel so beaten down and discouraged. But we’ll try again “together, working. together, beginning, over and over and over and over.”

I want to share that this lemonade stand was brought to you by a handful of moms (moms of multiples, working moms, expecting moms - tired moms who showed up anyway) and excited toddlers. You can imagine the chaos! What a perfect reminder that kindness can happen even in the chaos, even when the center cannot hold, even when you screw up and have to try again. I’m so grateful I got to be a part of this. Extra thanks to the kiddos and moms who braved the sun and heat and chaos with me.

We are teaching our littles that they are not too little to do good for our community and can use their voices to spread joy and sweets! I can’t think of a better way to celebrate Independence Day (especially if you’re like me and not feeling super festive this year). Beat the heat and get here early - we’ll be there from 9:30-11! And yes, it’s 7/5, not 7/4. 🙃

When I became a mom 3 years ago, postpartum depression and rage took me and my husband for a spin. Between the suicidal thoughts, the explosive rage, the exhaustion, and my usual feelings of inadequacy and self doubt - I really almost didn’t survive it. It sounds so dramatic to put it into words this way, but if you or someone you love has gone through this, you know I’m not exaggerating. My heart was expanding to fit the love and chaos of having a kid. My world was turned upside down. And my body and mental health went haywire. I will never be able to say enough thank yous to my community that showed up and rallied so I could stay. Baking for PSI is a Penny’s Pie Shop tradition for this reason - you are not alone. Please know I am with you, and if you ever need someone to listen I am here. Please reach out - I’ll bring the pie!

P.S. I am SO jet lagged. I’m hungry awake at midnight, starved at 2 am, and by 9:30 my threenager and I are DONE! Pie helps though 🙃
