The goal was to have a chill night out, enjoying a rooftop spot 🙃 And then 🔥🚒🧑🏽‍🚒💨

Shortly Before the Chaos:
Some dude’s unbearable political commentary encouraged us to relocate a couple of floors down…in hindsight, positioning us that much closer to the exit 🏃🏽‍♀️

The Chaos: A calm yet panicked staff member burst into the room, alerting us there’s a fire in the building and we had to leave NOW! We jumped, took a beat to collect our things, and fell in line with everyone else shuffling down the narrow, haphazardly built stairs.

Two floors were filled with smoke so thick you could barely see, and the stairwell was suddenly pitch black as the growing flames killed the power. Cautious with every step in my flowy dress and cheap sandals, I fearfully paused to find a light source.

My friend, pacing ahead of me, saw just how bad the fire was and turned back to yell, “Dani!”
The furnace-like heat stamped into my flesh and her dire tone brought my speed back up to “run, bitch!” mode. I prayed the rest of the way down, “Don’t fall, don’t pass out, don’t stop.”
