This cake though!! The recipient likes a good whisky with a cigar so that was the theme and I was given an inspo pic and free range for design. I attempted 2 new techniques and they were successful and definitely a game changer! 1st was making gelatin "ice cubes" with water, gelatin amd Sprite!! The bubbles from the Sprite became suspended in the gelatin once it set and it looked just like ice! Once they set, I popped them out of their molds, placed them in the glass, and then filled the glass with gelatin "whiskey". Just a drop of brown food dye to the gelatin did the trick. He can use that later to enjoy the nip of his favorite whiskey that I added to the cake. Next was a rice paper sail that I added to the fake cigar for "smoke". Soak rice paper in water until it become soft, mold it, and let it set for 24 hrs and it dries hard. I lightly sprayed on some gold luster dust by in an ombre effect to soften the black buttercream before adding the decorations. And my black buttercream won't stain your teeth!! I use a black dutched cocoa powder added to my vanilla buttercream that gives a very subtle aftertaste of an Oreo cookie. The customer and her husband loved the cake!
