We have some cakes at the Jonesborough indoor market! 8inch and 6 inch single layer cakes. 8 inch is $8.50 6 inch is $6. We have chocolate cake with homemade caramel icing, carrot cake with vanilla butter cream and Italian cream cake :)

I had two news stations approach me and ask me to do a interview. I did not seek them out, I wasn't trying to get attention we have already closed. I did feel the people in Erwin needed to be aware of what was going on and I was very upset about Hill Billy Butts and BBQ being run out of town. So here is a list of why we finally gave up and closed our bakery. 1st our neighbor Hawg N Dawg was a not so nice man! He did everything he could to hurt our business. Starting with adding all kinds of dessert to his menu (which by the way mostly come out of a box) while this is his right to sell desserts its underhanded and mean to try and hurt another business. 2nd during the construction the town went out of its way to make sure to never inconvience him while cutting our water off in the middle of lunch and many other things. 3rd. Mark who is head of the construction lied to my face and told me he was going to feed the construction workers at each of the downtown restaurants to help us all out. I know he fed them at least twice at Hawg N Dawg and never followed through with his promise to have me do lunch for them. 4th while I can't prove it I am pretty sure our neighbor is the one who complained as soon as our banner went up (never mind that he has one of those forbidden banners up now!) and I am pretty sure he is the one that complained about our two little tables outside. He also played a big role in deciding where over 10,000 of grant money for all the downtown merchants would go for advertising. They decided to use it for TV advertising which a lot of merchants could not afford. on top of that wanted us to fork out an additional $400 for the ads. I went to the city officials and complained asking why there wasn't a vote by all the merchants as to how to use this money. I was told it was being looked into and then told they would make sure that some money was used for radio and newspaper advertising. Again a lie!So this is why we closed our bakery not so much because of lack of customers, we could have hung on much longer I just was sick of fighting a losing battle. Now I am getting slammed on one of the news interviews on facebook. I am sure you will be shocked to know that most of the people slamming us are friend of Hawg N Dawgs owner or employees of his. Did they really think I wouldn't find out they worked for him? Not one time has an employee of his bought anything from us! So they are flat out lying and saying our baked goods were horrible. This is how this man does business. I spent a year biting my tongue but no more! I am not open anymore in Erwin so he can't hurt me but I can make sure everyone knows what kind of person he is! The town of Erwin is in this mans pocket and something needs to change.He filed a complaint againt Hill Billy Butts and BBQ and then later the complaint mysteriously vanished!
So the WJHL story is on facebook and shocking but certain people who are friends with a so called merchant are slamming me and saying my product was nasty! As much as this hurts I am trying not to let it bother me. I did the story because the news channels called me not to get attention.
We are on Channel 5 News tonight and will be on channel 11 news in the next few days. I am sure we have angered the powers that be in Erwin! I will miss our wonderful customers but I won't miss the lying politicians who run the town! I really hope elected official Michael Brown will make a difference in Erwin he seems to be the only one that cares about local businesses.
For any of our customers that are missing our storefront we are selling at the indoor Jonesborough farmers market on Boone Street it's open six days a week! The selection they have is amazing. We have breads our bars and our triple chocolate sea salt cookies, some homemade pastas and our quiches by the slice š come check them out and tell them Buttercup Bakery sent you
It is with great sadness that we announce the closing of our bakery. It has been a hard year and we have had some wonderful customers, but because of all the fighting back and forth with local government and another local business who doesn't want anyone else to succeed in the town of Erwin and apparently has all the town officials in his pocket we have thrown in the towel. We will still be doing catering and cakes, we will no longer have a store front. We have loved the year we were open even through the tough times.

We do not want to close the bakery but we are running out of ideas on how to get people to come downtown š not sure what the future holds for us.

I think for now we are only going to be offering quiche for lunch. I am not getting enough business to justify doing other lunches. I hope that will change in the future.
