I spoke to a young man "B" who I hadn't seen before; he recently moved into the area. He explained to me that moving to an area with high opioid use wasn't a problem for him as he wasn't addicted to he**in, he was "only" addicted to pills.
I pointed out that if he didn't address his addiction, it would only get worse. Now he put himself in an area with a lot of temptation surrounding him. And, no one we saw on he**in ever started with he**in. I gave him our contact info, told him we could help him and prayed with him. I left thinking he was fooling himself.
I then realized I also can fool myself. How often have I found myself in situations because I denied it, justified it, or deceived myself into thinking I have it under control?
"B"s only hope, and my only hope is Jesus.
Galatians 5:1
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
