𝑰𝒇 𝒘𝒆'𝒓𝒆 𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒓𝒆𝒃𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚, 𝑰 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝒘𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒑𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒓𝒐𝒐𝒎.
We've separated people by age so completely. Kids go to kid places. Adults go to adult places. Seniors go to senior places. And somehow we're surprised we don't feel connected, and are baffled by the generational gaps.

Young people aren't just missing out on old skills and wisdom; They're missing relationships with people outside their own stage of life. Perspective that comes from lived experience, being known and cared about by people outside their immediate family, even just knowing how to comfortably talk to someone 50 years older than them.

And isolation isn't doing older folks any favors either. If your main window into the world is eight hours of cable news telling you everything is on fire and half your neighbors lit the match, eventually outside starts looking pretty bleak.

We don't stop having something to contribute just because the AARP card shows up.
There's something important about a seven-year-old and a seventy-year-old working on the same thing, or even just existing in the same space. It's harder to be afraid of abstract groups of people when you actually know the people in them.

I don't want “kids visiting seniors” programming. I want generations naturally bumping into each other. A retired carpenter teaching a kid to use a hand tool. A teenager helping someone with their phone. A grandmother teaching something her grandmother taught her.
Or nobody teaching anybody anything. Just playing a game, drinking coffee, and talking.

Not a kids' space.
Not a young people's space.
Not a seniors' space.
A community space.
