Since there have been a lot of new followers lately, I think it’s time I properly introduce myself. Many of you know me personally, but for those who don’t…
Hi 👋 I’m Melanie Lauterbach, the baker behind Bain Hollow Bakes.
After losing my dad in September 2023, I found myself working through grief in the kitchen. Baking became a way to process feelings that words couldn’t capture, and before long, trays of cinnamon rolls meant for family and friends turned into something bigger. Those first “grief bakes” were shared with love, and people kept coming back for more. What began as a personal outlet soon grew into Bain Hollow Bakes.
The name itself carries deep roots. “Bain Hollow” is what my dad always called the land where I grew up. A retired grocer, baker, and business owner, he passed down not only a love for food, family, and feeding others, but also the value of genuine customer service. Carrying on that tradition has been both healing and inspiring.
I’ve learned to “do it afraid" pushing past my introversion and social anxiety to share my creations with the community. And what I’ve discovered is that when you open yourself up, this community shows up to support you in return.
Today, Bain Hollow Bakes is more than cinnamon rolls. It’s a dream in the making, a homegrown business built on resilience, creativity, and love. With the unfailing support of my mom, my favorite handsome dishwasher Nick 😍, and my kids, I’ve been able to ride the ups and downs of the last couple years. Through the crazy economy, long nights, early mornings, and plenty of trial and error, the consistency, patience, and a little downright stubbornness 😉 are finally proving fruitful. My hope is to eventually grow from my home kitchen into a local storefront where I can continue bringing joy, comfort, and connection through food.
Your support of local small businesses means investing directly back into our community and the people working hard to build something meaningful here at home. Every order, every share, and every word of encouragement helps dreams like mine continue to grow—and for that, I’m incredibly grateful. 🫶
