First Cake Caper in a long while:

The first pic is the inspiration sent to me by one of my sister coworkers that she wanted me to make for one of our Neonatologists that loves buttercream that we don't get to see very often in the unit we work in. It's stacked cookies with stiff buttercream. I'm sure there's a fancy name for it as I've seen it on "baking challenge" shows on TV. It's been a long while since I baked anything just for fun and yum!

The remaining photos are what I came up with. I recently discovered emulsion flavorings so my first experiment was with 'cookie butter' flavoring in this recipe. I don't normally eat my own sweets... but, um, I saved some of this particular icing for later.. lol It's not Pinterest worthy.. But we all loved it!! 💖

This weekend's cake caper adventure:

The1/2 100 years - Half Century Birthday Cakes. It was a Luau theme so the Beach Cake is vanilla with custom molded chocolate shells, sea life, and motorcycle I made. "Sand" is crush Nilla wafer cookies. The "water" is and underlayment of white buttercream with sparkle gel in turquoise and royal blue to make the almost 3d water effect with white shimmer gel to make the wave crests.

The Half Century cake that is chocolate is a reflection of the invite banner. My dear friend has lived a very full life these last 50 years! He is an Air Force Veteran and retired Sheriff Deputy. I did my best to recreate the United States Air Force, and Cumberland County Sheriff's Office emblems. The Air Force emblem is white fondant color designed with edible ink pens. The Sheriff's Office emblem is silver fondant with an overlay of white fondant that I drew in the decorations do my best to approximate the official design. If I owned an edible ink printer of course I could make sugar paper designs... maybe someday.. but for now, hand decorated is the way! 🎨🎂🎨🎂🎨🎂

By the way... the chocolate cake was demolish and the vanilla went fast afterwards. I was pleased as punch to have this honor to make these cakes for a beloved friend and his family and family of friends. 💗🎂🎉

This was this past weekend's cake caper.. a Farewell Cake for one of my beloved coworkers moving back to Indiana next month. It's the first time in a long while that I made a cake for work. It was loved by all! As in it flew off the cake plate! 😊🥰

So I went to Camporee with my Troop 716G. Here is a literal first for me! A Dutch oven Pinapple upside down cake. Only it is not the traditional 7-Up and box mix dump cake. This one is from scratch completely! I made two this past weekend. One for the "Cast Iron Chef" competition in camp. And one for scouts. Both went thru two thunderstorms while cooking, the first one for competition was baking when a Tornado warning occurred and we got instructed to hide in the cinderblock bath houses and other sturdy structures till the all clear was given.. Thunderstorms do not mix well with baking..⛈⛈⛈⛺⛺⛺😑 sooooooo....

I dub this past weekend's Cake Capers: The Tornado and Thunderstorm Pineapple Upside Down Cakes! 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🍍⛈🍍⛈🍍⛈🤪

This was this past weekend's cake caper... the 🌸🐝Busy as a Bee 🐝🌸birthday cake for our Head Neonatologist, Dr.Bird. She's a buttercream officianato so I made sure it was good and thickly sweet.. Lol. She is that person who would eat buttercream by the spoonful if she could!😂💗

So since she buzzes around the unit like the busy bee🌸🐝🌼🐝🌸🐝🌼 that she is.. The honey bees were tucked in amongst the flowers. It was a super fun and fast cake... the already frosted blank cake sort of got decorated during a 15min break before it got presented.. Lol And just to guild the Lilly a bit, I added edible gold star and pink heart glitters. 💗⭐💗⭐

Hello Sweetheart Family... I normally post my cake diary right after a presentation.. However, this cake was made two weeks after my Mom passed away😔 which was an event alone that was a shock to my heart. It's taken me a little while to come back to social media, and to others and be in the world again, Covid-19 and other events aside.. 2020... sigh..😔😔😔

So this is my 💝💗Baby Bree is One 💗💝smash cake. It's a strawberry cake filled with strawberry in the layers, and iced with cream cheese buttercream. Its humid so it's a little sweeter than normal due to extra sugar to tighten up the frosting. Humidity and cream cheese frosting definitely do not like each other. So this is a naked cake technique with a gum paste sugar topper I made. I wasn't so successful at the "one". But it was also my first use of gum paste instead of fondant because it dries faster. It still came out cute with a touch of elegance.🌸🌸🌸

It was made for one of my dearest best friends' grand daughter's first birthday. Her Daddy had a birthday too so he got a red velvet cake with the same cream cheese buttercream frosting. His wife wanted to do her own cake topper treatment so it went as a blank slate to be turned into a Jack Daniel's themed drunken cake... Lol 😂🤣

Some Thanksgiving Dessert fun... a Pumpkin Marscapone Pie and a Cannoli Cheese cake made with ricotta cheese instead of cream cheese. It definitely tastes like a cannoli only baked! Terrifically yummy!!
