SEED SAVING!
I went out and harvested a ton of romaine lettuce seeds today! I feel like so many people don’t realize how easy it is to save seeds from things you’re already growing.
After a really hot week in July? my lettuce bolted, making the leaves super bitter. I let a few of them go to seed this year. Eventually they grow these tall stalks, flower, and then the seed heads almost look like little dandelions.
Once they’re dry and look like they’re about ready to blow away, I cut the tops of the stalks off and shake them into a box. Then I just do my best to separate the seeds from all the white fluffy stuff and any stems that fell in. You definitely don’t have to get every little piece out. I mostly do it so they take up less space when I store them.
I prefer to store my seeds in a labeled envelope. It’s very rewarding planting the seeds that you took the time to save and just another step and being more self sufficient! I hope by sharing this, I inspire at least one person to try it😁❤️
