NINE years ago, we put together a fundraiser called The Depressed Cake Shop. We sold grey baked goods to represent depression, with a pop of color on the inside to represent the hope within depression. All of our funds were donated to the UNK mental health program for students so they could have access to extra therapy sessions once they had used all of their free sessions.
Sounds familiar right?
This mission is something I’ve been on for over a decade, and 9 years ago I made it a reality.
I’m so so so proud of the Lemon & Gold fundraiser we’re doing now, and how our community has come together to pay off over $2400+ of overdue therapy bills in the last year for Kearney, Hastings, and Grand Island.
We don’t think of you guys as “followers,” but rather as “believers.”
Believers in us, in our mission, and in our community. Youve made SUCH a difference in OUR lives, let alone the difference you’ve made for every person we were able to financially assist with their therapy debt.
Sometimes people ask us how we decide who gets the funds.
And the answer is simple.
We don’t.
That’s not for us to decide.
We call a random therapy office and say, “hey, I’d like to do a good deed today. Are there any overdue therapy bills that I can pay off for someone?”
That’s as far as I go. I never know WHO we help. I never know WHY they’re in therapy or WHY they have the debt they do.
All I know in that moment is that SOMEONE needs help, and Hashem has given us the opportunity to do so through your purchases of our Lemon & Gold cookies.
Again, I just want to say thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for supporting our mission. 🖤
