It’s my baby’s first birthday party tonight, and this is her smash cake! ❤️ It’s a 2” cake on top of a 3” cake on top of a 4” cake, and it’s just the cutest tiny little thing, around 6” tall!

I tried a new sourdough flavor today, but it needs some tweaking. At least it’s pretty!

Sandwich loaf…artisan boule…what’s the difference?

🍞Artisan boules have fewer ingredients. These fluffy yet chewy loaves are made with only flour, water, salt, and natural yeast (which is made by mixing flour and water).

🥪 Sandwich loaves include natural yeast, water, sugar, flour, salt, and olive oil.

🍞 Artisan boules are usually round or spherical and require a Dutch oven, baking stone, or other super hot surface to get that traditional look and texture.

🥪 Sandwich loaves are baked in a regular loaf pan, as you would bake a commercially yeasted sandwich loaf.

🍞 Artisan Boules require more steps and attention, with each loaf having to be individually attended to ten times or more times in the process.

🥪 Sandwich loaves require fewer steps, with each loaf requiring attention only five times in the process.

🍞 Artisan boules can be completed in as little as 12 hours from start to finish, but for best results, and more tangy flavor, you usually want to plan 24 hours.

🥪 Sandwich loaves are more predictable, coming in at a 12 to 14-hour process.

🍞🥪 Both are delicious and regular price on these will be the same…$8 each!

Now through August 7, you can order a sourdough sandwich loaf for just $6.
I’m also going to start offering cinnamon swirl loaves. Now through August 7, cinnamon swirl loaves are on sale for $6 as well!

Happy August!!
August means sourdough is making its way onto the menu here at Home Comforts Bakery.

To kick off the month, I’m offering a fluffy, sweet and slightly tangy sandwich loaf for sale $2 off! All sandwich loaf orders placed between August 1-7 will be $6.

Sourdough bread is a fermented product made using natural yeast as the leavening agent. The whole process can take up to 48 hours from start to finish to complete each loaf of bread. Because of this, orders must be placed at least 72 hours before pick up. All sourdough products will be available for pick up Tuesday through Saturday only.

Happy Lego birthday, Judah! This is a 3-layer 8” chocolate cake in buttercream. The figure is custom made out of fondant to Judah’s specifications. All of the Legos are made from fondant, and everything is edible. And everything is awesome. 😆

When I turn 40, I might have to revisit this shimmery cake! 💛 White cake with almond buttercream, a white chocolate golden ganache drip, and white chocolate covered strawberries make up this 40th birthday bash cake! The customer will be adding their own elements to the middle, but I loved how the base of it turned out!

This was a super fun order! The customer bought these edible printed images of her daughter’s high school diploma. She had me bake some sugar cookies with buttercream icing and attach them to the tops of the cookies. I just think these are adorable! 🎓

This is what I call a “taste good” cake. Not that birthday cakes with buttercream icing aren’t good, but what I mean by a “taste good” cake is that your grandma might have made this recipe for church potlucks when you were little, and it just tastes like it was made with love. It might be a little homely. It might not be perfectly decorated. It definitely has “character.” 😆 But man…when it’s time for my birthday, I want a homely “taste good” cake like Grandma used to make! This Italian Cream Cake with Cream Cheese Icing went to church with me yesterday! 🩵

There’s just something about sourdough. 💜
It’s fluffy yet chewy at the same time, goes perfectly with butter or with jam, and goes amazing with soups and salads. It’s my kids’ favorite snack!
