Beyond the Bread Basket #5: Why I Make Things 🧶🍞
I’ve realized that what I really love isn’t just making things.
It’s making things for people.
This was my very first sourdough loaf: a double chocolate espresso loaf.
It definitely wasn’t perfect, but I remember being so proud of it. I had taken flour, water, starter, cocoa powder, chocolate, espresso powder, and a whole lot of hope and somehow turned it into bread.
I didn’t know then where it would take me.
What I’ve come to love most about creating things is the feeling I get when I can make something that gives another person a little piece of home.
Maybe it’s a loaf of bread that makes their kitchen smell incredible. Maybe it’s something I cooked for my family. Maybe it’s a crochet project made simply because I thought someone would love it.
I love that moment when someone takes that first bite and you can almost see it happen, That little taste that reminds them of something. A kitchen. A childhood memory. A person they love. A feeling they haven’t had in a while.
That’s what makes creating things so special to me because it doesn’t have to be perfect and it doesn’t have to be fancy. I just want the things I make to feel like home.
And if someone takes that first bite and thinks, “There it is…” Then I think I made exactly what I was supposed to. 💚
