Welcome to the beginning of something really special. šŸ¤Ž

A few weeks ago, I found an old envelope filled with handwritten recipes from my great-grandmothers, my grandmother, and other women from Chandler dating all the way back to the 1960s.

I knew immediately that I couldn’t just put the envelope back in a drawer.

I want to cook my way through it.

I want to learn the stories behind these recipes, remember the women who made them, and bring a little piece of old Chandler back to life—one recipe at a time.

So we’re starting with Granny Bird’s apple dumplings. šŸŽ

And I want YOU to be part of this series.

If you grew up in Chandler, have been here for generations, or have memories of the way your grandparents cooked, I want to hear them.

Do you recognize any of these recipes?
Did your grandmother make something similar?
Do you have an old Chandler family recipe tucked away somewhere?

Tell me in the comments. I have a feeling there are a LOT of stories out there that deserve to be remembered.

And if you’re from Chandler, tag someone who should see this. Maybe we can uncover a little more of the history hiding in our own kitchens. šŸ¤Ž

Here’s to the women who came before us, the recipes they left behind, and bringing them back to the table.

I am SO excited about this week’s market menu! ā¤ļø There are definitely some fun Southern touches making their way onto the table this week.

We’ll have our Classic Cinnamon Scrolls, White Chocolate & Peach Scrolls, and we’re taking our cake cups a little more adult this week. šŸ˜‰ We’ll have a Chocolate Maple & Wh***ey Cake Cup and a Bourbon Caramel Apple Cake Cup — and I am VERY excited about these two!

We’re also switching things up with Cherry Turnovers this week. The apple turnovers were such a hit, and cherry just feels like the perfect little taste of late-summer Southern goodness. šŸ’

And of course, we’re bringing back the Blueberry Buckles because apparently y’all just can’t get enough of them… and honestly, I can’t blame you. They’re absolutely delicious.

We’ll top it all off with our Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies, because every market needs a little brown butter goodness. šŸŖ

And knowing me, I might get a little carried away and bring along a few more fun things… but you’ll just have to come to the market to find out what they are. šŸ˜‰

I can’t wait to see y’all at Eastmark Farmers Market this Saturday from 7 AM–11 AM! Come say hi, grab your favorites, and maybe discover a little surprise while you’re there. ā¤ļø

There is something so simple and perfect about a classic red velvet cake. ā¤ļø

Maybe it’s because it’s timeless, yet somehow holds so much history, so many memories, and so much love.

There’s just something about putting together a cake like this that feels almost therapeutic. The familiar steps, the simple ingredients, the little details that come together to create something beautiful. It’s comforting in a way that’s hard to explain.

I think that’s what I love most about baking. Sometimes it isn’t about creating something new or extravagant. Sometimes it’s about returning to the classics—the recipes and traditions that have been loved for generations and reminding yourself why they’ve stood the test of time.

A classic red velvet cake will always have my heart. ā¤ļø

I haven’t made Granny Bird’s pie crust since she passed away. That was 7 years ago.

I forgot how much I missed it.

I actually had to reach out to my aunt, who is another incredible baker in our family, because somewhere in the chaos of life, I had lost the recipe. And as soon as I made that first batch of dough, I remembered.

This pie crust holds so many memories. So much tradition. It’s funny how easy it is to get caught up in life and forget where you come from—and why some of these simple, old-fashioned things are just so damn good.

These apple turnovers were inspired by my grandmother’s apple dumplings. As I was making them, I just cried.

The flaky crust. The warm apple filling. The smell. Every little piece of them reminded me of her.

Needless to say, my grandmother has been with me so much this week. ā¤ļø

I truly wish she could have seen what Cups of Cakes is becoming. I wish she could see these recipes being brought back to life and shared with people again. I think she would be pretty proud.

And these beauties? They are everything I hoped they would be—flaky, buttery, filled with warm apples, and just perfect.

A little piece of Granny Bird, wrapped up in pie dough. šŸ„¹šŸŽ

You can find them tomorrow morning at Sovereign Acres, and we’ll have them at the Eastmark Farmers Market on Saturday!

Sometimes the best things we make are the ones that bring us back home. ā¤ļø

✨ THIS WEEKEND’S MARKET MENU IS HERE! ✨

If it hasn’t been obvious lately, going back through all of our family recipes has been a little bit of an emotional roller coaster. So this weekend, we’re leaning into it — indulging in some pride, nostalgia, and true Southern classics. šŸ¤Ž

And honestly, the apple turnover feels like the perfect way to bring it all together. It was inspired by my grandmother’s apple dumplings — her apple filling, her pie dough, all those familiar flavors I grew up loving… just made into a handheld little package of goodness. šŸŽ

So here’s what we’re bringing to the market this weekend:

ā¤ļø Classic Cinnamon Scrolls — our tried-and-true signature favorite.

šŸ« Cookies & Cream Scrolls — made with our own homemade chocolate shortbread for that extra-rich, chocolatey crunch.

šŸ„œšŸ« Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake Cups — rich chocolate cake with fluffy peanut butter frosting and crunchy pieces of peanut brittle. Basically, chocolate + peanut butter heaven.

šŸŽ Apple Turnovers — inspired by Grandma’s apple dumplings, made with her-style flaky pie dough and warm apple filling, baked golden and finished with a sweet glaze.

🫐 Blueberry Buckles — YES, THEY’RE BACK! They did SO well last weekend, and honestly… I’m obsessed. So naturally, we had to bring them back. šŸ˜‚šŸ’™

šŸŖ Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies — our tried-and-true favorite, made with nutty brown butter and plenty of chocolate.

This weekend is all about the recipes, flavors, and memories that feel like home. The kind of baking that reminds you where you came from and why you fell in love with it in the first place. šŸ¤Ž

We can’t wait to see you all!

Come early, come hungry, and come say hey! 🄰

Hi, I’m Sierra! šŸ¤ I’m the owner and baker behind Cups of Cakes — a Southern cottage bakery built around nostalgic treats, homemade flavors, and a whole lot of love.

If you’re new here, or maybe you’ve been following along for a while, I thought it was time to reintroduce myself.

Baking has been a journey and an outlet for me for as long as I can remember. I come from a long line of Southern bakers, business owners, and farmers, so food, family, hard work, and community have always been woven into who I am.

My family has called Chandler home for more than four decades, and this community truly feels like home to us. We believe in sharing our love through food, gathering around the table, and making sure the people who walk through our doors feel like family.

You never leave our house hungry… and I never want you to leave our bakery feeling any different. 🄰

Everything we make is meant to feel a little like home — comforting, nostalgic, familiar, and made with love. Whether it’s one of our signature scrolls, a specialty dessert, or a custom cake made just for your celebration, our goal is always the same:

We want you to feel loved, welcomed, and cared for.

That’s the heart behind Cups of Cakes. It’s more than just baking for us — it’s sharing a little piece of our family, our Southern roots, and our home with you.

And I’m so grateful you’re here to be a part of it. šŸ¤šŸ§

These last few weeks have been pretty hard on our household. We’ve experienced a few losses within our family, and honestly, I’ve just been in a bit of a rut. When life keeps throwing things at you from different directions, it can be hard to keep that creative brain moving.

So, I did what I often do when I need a little inspiration — I went back to the old recipes.

I started looking through recipes that have been passed down through my family, through different generations, and while searching for inspiration for this week’s menu, I found an old envelope addressed to my great-grandmother.

Inside were newspaper clippings from Chandler residents — Chandler women — dating back to the early 1950s and 1960s. As I went through them, I felt this overwhelming sense of nostalgia. How incredibly cool is it to have these little pieces of history, filled with recipes from women in my own family?

And then I found three that were directly connected to my family — one from each of my great-grandmothers and one from my grandmother. All of them have since passed.

If that isn’t a sign that I’m supposed to be working my way through one of their recipes this week, I don’t know what is. ā¤ļø

For those who don’t know, I’m a Chandler native. My family has been here since, I believe, the 1930s. It’s pretty incredible to think about how many generations of my family have called this place home.

And maybe that’s what I needed to be reminded of.

Even through seasons of loss, sometimes you’re still being guided, inspired, and reminded of where you came from. Maybe this week’s menu isn’t just about creating something new — maybe it’s about bringing a little piece of the women who came before me back into the kitchen. 🩷

So, stay tuned… because I think one of their recipes is making its way onto this week’s menu. ✨

What exactly is a buckle? ✨

A buckle is an old-fashioned fruit dessert made with a tender, buttery cake and fresh fruit, finished with a sweet, crumbly streusel topping. As it bakes, the fruit settles into the cake and the top gently ā€œbucklesā€ around it—giving this cozy dessert its name.

Think coffee cake meets fruit cobbler, with that nostalgic, homemade goodness you’d expect from Grandma’s kitchen. šŸ’•
