May has been busy, and I’ll share more cakes soon, but today’s creation deserves a post of its own. 😍

This customer requested a graduation cake with a unique twist (which I absolutely love). One side celebrates graduation in soft, muted school colors, while the other side celebrates her birthday with a cookies-and-cream theme.

One of my favorite parts of creating custom cookie cakes is that I rarely know exactly what the finished product will look like when I start. I begin with a color palette, a vision, and a whole lot of buttercream, then let the colors, textures, and piping styles come together along the way.

Today, everything just clicked.

And yes…there may have been an audible gasp when I stepped back to look at the finished cake. 🫢✨

The joys I find in creating are never just one thing. They’re constantly changing.

Sometimes it’s finally nailing the perfect icing color. Other times it’s getting my handwriting just right (because y’all… writing on a cake is truly a talent). Maybe it’s melting the butter just enough to create that perfectly chewy texture.

And sometimes, like yesterday, it’s creating something that helps send people into their next chapter.

No matter the reason, using creativity in a way that brings joy to others never gets old. It’s also a reminder that simple gestures often mean the most.

Grateful for every opportunity to create something meaningful — no matter how big or small.

It’s been a little quiet around here because, in typical Second Slice fashion, I decided to try something I’d never done before.

Triple decker cookie cake?
Cookie cups?
A 3D object built out of cookies?

Nope.

My wedding cake 🤪🤯😂

2 half sheet service cakes and the actual 2-tiered cutting cake were equal parts exciting and excruciating. Swiss meringue buttercream, which I’d never done before, was a labor of love (with a lot of cursing and prayers). Thanks ChatGPT for walking me through that process.

Was it worth it? Absolutely yes. Was it perfect? Absolutely no. Seeing the whole process come together was the reward. And then tasting the dense raspberry cake, and then sampling the fluffy lemon layers? Heaven 😇 Also, huge shoutout to my mom for making all the flowers, berries and eucalyptus from scratch! ❤️

No, I am not adding wedding cakes to my offerings. I can’t think of a reasonable price that anyone would pay that would include the ingredient cost plus my time. Good butter ain’t cheap 😬 But, as always, if you have a special request, I’d be more than happy to consider it.

Thanks for being along on my journey of unhinged moments coming to fruition. I think it’s fair to say life is never boring in my kitchen 👩‍🍳

Cut, baked, iced, wrapped, delivered 🥳

There were late nights, early mornings, a few “why did I say yes to this?” moments, and one major “OMG, now what do I do?!” panic attack when I realized my original packaging idea wasn’t going to work.

PSA - dough spreads. Don’t order packaging based off the cookie cutter size 🤣🫣

BUT there was also a lot of joy in creating something by hand for people I care about ❤️

Every order teaches me something — about time, boundaries, pricing, and trusting the process — and this one was no exception. Grateful for the chance to create, learn, and share a little sweetness along the way. 💛
