With the new Home Based Vendor law going into effect July 1st, I’ll be slowly rolling out some new things in my business.. starting with “Flater’s Famous Salads”, a tribute to my great grandma and her salad business she owned for about 40 years. 🥰
She started like me.. in her home and eventually turned her garage into a production setup with three separate rooms dedicated to her business. Our family members helped deliver her salads to grocery stores all over central Indiana!!
My great uncle Bus (who is still local to Franklin) owned a food market in the 80’s in downtown Franklin called Flaters Market where my great grandma’s salads were sold. The business was closed/sold in 1990 when my great grandma was 76. She lived to be 94. 🥹
What’s crazy to me is that I had no idea she ran a home food business until AFTER I started mine. That brought some major nostalgia lol!
I asked one of my aunts for her recipes thinking it would be pretty simple, and she told me they were all in massive batches. I was like “yeah I get massive batches… I’ve baked 125+ loaves of bread in a week” then I got the recipe cards.
Potato Salad… 80 pounds 😂😂
At that point I realized I have no idea how she did this while raising 4 kids because I have 2 boys and while it is a huge blessing, it is not easy. 😅🫶🏼
So ANYWAYS, I’m planning to start rolling these out in MUCH smaller batches after my 8 weeks at the Franklin Farmers Market. I’ll slowly start with her famous salads like potato salad, 5 cup salad, macaroni salad, etc.
Would anyone be interested in having these? 😊
