Hey, Michelle here again! Just got back from dropping off my eight pies at the Ross County Fair, which means you should keep an eye out for pie for sale this evening. If you are one who is interested in making a purchase, would you rather I leave the pies as they are received back from the judges (with possibly up to two slices missing), or cut into slices. Or mini slices like a pie sampler/flight? While you think about that, here are photos of the pies I entered. You may find one isn't as showy as the rest. I made a last-minute "basic" pie like I normally would with just some stars on top. I told Steve I named her Mary Anne after the character on Gilligan's Island because she wasn't the flashy one like all the other pies.

Can I get some encouragement as I gear up to enter a bunch of pies in the Ross County Fair? I haven't entered anything in the fair since I was in college (and that was mainly my artwork/photography). I've always been a bit wary entering baked goods in the fair (at least a decade or so ago), because it seemed baked goods were just judged based on judges' personal preferences versus following a baking standard (though I can imagine it's tough trying to judge things like the chocolate chip cookies and popular categories like that, because everyone and their cousin seemed to enter those. I'd imagine they'd all start to taste the same eventually. But I've never entered pies, and I'm hoping, with Grandma Connie's teachings (who was a two time winner of the title "Homemaker of the Year" at the Ross County Fair in 2010 and 2015) and my artsy disposition, that I stand a chance to at least place with a few. Someday I'd like to try for Homemaker of the Year, but I know prepping projects for such a thing can take years, or basically be a full-time job. For now, I'll test the water with pie.
