In this video I’ll be making one of my layered plywood sculpture designs out of layers of stainless steel. I made a small test piece to see if it was possible and I really like the look and feel of the layered metal. It reminds me of the mural sized architectural relief sculptures you see in the lobby’s of old sky scrapers. The Empire State Building lobby comes to mind.
In order to build this sculpture out of sheet metal I have to modify the design slightly with solid rivet holes. These holes will help index the layers to each other. They will also permanently sandwich them tightly together to make one solid sculpture. Looking forward to seeing the finished piece!
