The girls are SPICY today! As soon as I cracked that top off today they came out with vengeance in their hearts. Of course I wore my "spring beekeeping" pants and they got me, right through my lightweight cargo pants. I also was like "oh im just gonna be in and out today, I don't need to smoke them". Rookie mistake. Summer beekeeping is not for the faint of heart. These girls are hungry and thirsty and they are protecting what's theirs. After a change into my heavyweight overalls and leather gloves, we were able to get back in there with the smoker and add more sugar syrup to supplement the nectar drought, or "dearth" in the bee world. They are much happier with their food refilled and my leg and stomach are also feeling much better. (Because of course one got in the house and went right up my shirt after I took my bee jacket off 😑)
