The past year has been one of the hardest—and one of the most faith-filled—seasons of my life.
In March I was involved in what seemed like a minor car accident. I hit my head on the headrest and was diagnosed with a concussion. When the headaches continued for more than two months, my doctors ordered an MRI.
That MRI changed everything.
It revealed that I have a left sphenoid wing clinoidal meningioma—a brain tumor that has likely been growing silently for years. Ironically, the headaches weren't caused by the tumor at all; they were from post-concussion syndrome. But the MRI uncovered something we never would have known otherwise. The tumor sits against my optic nerve, and although I haven't experienced seizures or vision loss, additional imaging showed inflammation where the tumor is pushing into the brain. After meeting with an incredible neurosurgeon at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, we made the decision that it needs to be removed now.
If I hadn't been in that car accident... if the headaches hadn't lingered... if the MRI hadn't been ordered... this tumor may have continued to grow unnoticed until it caused permanent damage. God used what felt like an inconvenience—even suffering—to reveal something that needed to be found. Once again, He has protected my life in ways I never could have imagined.
This journey comes after already walking through two cancers and years of health challenges. I won't pretend I'm not scared. Brain surgery is a big mountain to climb. But I know Who goes before me. My hope is not in the diagnosis or the outcome—it is in the Lord, who has never left my side. He has been faithful in every valley, and I know He will be faithful in this one too.
On August 6th, I will undergo surgery—one year and one day after we entrusted my mom into the arms of Jesus. I don't believe the timing is accidental. It is a reminder to me that even through loss, God continues to bring hope, healing, and purpose.
I have never felt so surrounded by love. God has placed so many angels in my life—my amazing husband, Kevin, my children and family, my church family, my work family, my friends, and so many others who have prayed, encouraged, and lifted me up. Thank you for reminding me that I am not walking this road alone.
As I prepare for surgery, I ask for your prayers—for wisdom for my surgical team, steady hands in the operating room, peace for my family, and a complete recovery. Above all, I pray that God is glorified through every step of this journey. No matter what lies ahead, I know He is in control. He has carried me through every storm before, and I have complete faith that He will carry me through this one too.
"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." – Psalm 46:1
To God be all the glory. ❤️
