A year ago today, we sold our home and left the magical property where we became family. We headed north- back to New England, but to a place that none of us had ever called home.

It is hard to walk away from a life that you love… But I think in spite of the growing pains, we’re in a good place. A great place.

I’ll always miss the openness and views in Virginia, the mountains and so much fresh food. Spring there is perfect. I even miss our isolated days being my kids entire world. But they were going to start becoming more independent regardless of where we lived. Maybe more importantly, we live in a place now where I can embrace that saying “it takes a village.”

We’re part of a community of people- newcomers and natives. We usually have a house or car filled with kids, and I am comfortable turning to other parents for rides or advice. It’s not perfect – but the outlook seems to be more openminded and sunnier… and the landscape has finally greened up too.

We’ll keep taking the best each home has offered- and feeling thankful for these places and the people and each other… and the courage it takes to step outside of a comfort zone. And we’ll always have the Creekside Cabin… 💜

So, maybe we really can have our cake… and eat it with with a great glass of wine barefoot in our gardens surrounded by animals, friends, and family… too. ; )

There are a number of ways I never quite felt like I fit in in Virginia. One of them was my love of coffee… and peanut butter for that matter! 🤣 🤷‍♀️

The transition back to New England has not been seamless, and there really is a whole lot that I miss about our life in Virginia- but people seem to get equally excited about all things coffee here!

When our pup decided to go on tour last week, I was amazed by the outpouring of support by our new community. I was a little shocked and embarrassed that Milo scored himself a ride with the police- causing my kids and I to tell everyone for days that Milo was Pup-rested…

We are fitting in in more ways than we are not in a shockingly welcoming corner of the country. Sharing a new mocha cake recipe seemed like an appropriate thank you to Milo’s rescuer-and a great excuse to try King Arthur Baking Company Espresso Powder ; )
