The kids are off school for the rest of the week for conferences. We've stayed in our jammies all day, I had some baking to do, and then the kids and I made halloween cookies.

In the early 1900s, the phrase "Bread, and roses too!" became a popular slogan for women during America's Labor Movement. James Oppenheim wrote a poem inspired by this call. John Denver sang a version of this poem to music.

I read this mantra in a book earlier this year and it has been heavy on my heart and mind since. What a profound and simple declaration that spans so many aspects of our lives and stays relevant a century on. I keep coming back to this phrase, time and again as the year has progressed. You deserve bread. But you deserve roses, too.
