Spirit of Giving 2017 in Paris,Texas 2017 11th annual Spirit of Giving will be held at Lamar County Courthouse parking lot Saturday, Dec. 16Th st at 11:00 a.m.

"Spirit of Giving" is the most unique event of its kind. It is an annual community Christmas party held each year on the Saturday before Christmas. What makes it unique is that everything is free, even the concessions. The First United Methodist Church parking lot is transformed into a group of "stations" that give away household items, cookies, Christmas and other seasonal decorations, toys, cann

ed goods, coats and shoes, hot dogs and chili, bags of fruit, bicycles, and pictures with Santa in front of an antique fire truck. Individuals, businesses, non profits and churches collect items all year and work side by side as volunteers to give to each other and those in need in the community.

What a blessing to get this ahead of the rain ..yet the rain on the concrete helps it cure! I got a two- fer!

1986: I didn't really know the Lord then:
A customer of mine (an older lady), had a Christmas tree up in late summer.. I asked about it. She said she kept it up all year, and said, simply, "Christmas can be every day of the year if you choose it to be!'
Oh, how I wished I could talk to her today!
It took another 30 years before I really understood her statement!
Ok.. listen to the voice of experience: You will not find the "Christmas Spirit" by waiting for it to come to you by music, shopping, writing checks, or going to events, parties, even church service...you will find the meaning of Christmas by loving, serving, giving, and asking and offering forgiveness...You can be a cheerful giver and receiver... or be empty, angry, frustrated, depressed, and miserable!
I may not have all the answers, but I learned this one the hard way!
By the way, do you know how much God loves you! Merry Christmas!

Many folks don't know about some of the great booths we have had at Spirit of Giving over the years...it is so much more than a charity event or garage sale...any business or non profit or individual can come and set up and promote their organization or just share items or services...here are some examples from the past...United Way, Red Cross, Paris Firefighters, ParisPolice, NAACP, GIDEONS, ,biker groups, Hicks Tires, PISD, 4h clubs, groups of youth, Paris Imaging, many stores, 30 churches,singers, banks,Taco Casa, NLISD, teachers,
advocacy groups, etc....
only one major rule:...you cant sell anything!...this ain't your Mama's or your churches annual garage sale, but if you or your organization would like to get face to face with about 2500 folks to share Christ's love, here is your chance... at no cost other than your time...can you spare 2 hours on the 15th?
