I almost talked myself out of going.

When I offered to donate 150 cookies to for the Texas Latino Legacy Awards, I felt completely in my element. Head down in the bakery, listening to music, precision-piping cookies to absolute cuteness—that is my happy place.

Then the invitation arrived: "Mandy, we'd love for you to join us and celebrate."

Queue instant panic.

If we're being completely honest, put me in a room full of new people and my social anxiety goes into overdrive. My brain instantly started listing excuses to stay safely in my bakery.

But I put on my outfit, grabbed our cookies, and walked through those doors anyway.

And what I found inside blew me away.

The moment I stepped in, the warmth of this community completely washed away the nerves. There was no judgment—just pure joy, open arms, and incredible people coming together to lift each other up. Seeing our hard work sitting on those tables as a small part of such an impactful night is a moment I’ll never forget.

The kindest people you’ll ever meet are the ones who notice. 🌹
One night our friend group was at Fred and Rosemary’s house for a painting class — his wife is another extraordinary artist. I got carried away with the oil paint and by the end my hands were a disaster.
While we were still painting, Fred quietly slipped out. He drove to the auto shop, bought industrial hand cleaner, and had it waiting for me when class ended.

He didn’t say a word about it. He just noticed. Then he did the thing.

That was Fred. Kind in the quiet ways. Talented in the loud ones. His paintings live in homes all across the country. But the people who knew him will remember the small ways he made room for us.

This week I got to turn his paintings into cookies for his celebration of life. What an honor.

Somewhere in my house, there is a box of 1997 Tamagotchis quietly waiting for me to check on them... and I'm genuinely terrified to see what condition they're in. 👾

I never really stopped loving those tiny pixel screens or the pure panic of trying to keep a virtual pet alive between classes. Fast forward a few decades, and my kids became completely obsessed with their own little digital characters.

Seeing their excitement brought all those 90s memories flooding back, so my design brain did what it always does: turned nostalgia into dessert. 🥰🕹️

These custom cookies are two eras baked into one—hand-painted on our signature buttery-soft shortbread and finished with detailed edible ink. They are basically little edible time capsules!
