Good afternoon beautiful people I was supposed to share this last week but completely forgot.... but hey better late than never right☺️.
There was a time when I did not like Turkey at all! It didn’t matter who cooked it because to me turkey was just always dry! This is a myth! Cooking a turkey can certainly be a tad bit daunting, but buying one doesn’t have to be with these tips...
Fresh or Frozen?
No real difference in terms of quality! Fresh turkeys are flash frozen and can cost up to 50%more.
Go Generic
Did you know that store brands cost less than the butterballs etc, but it is likely that both birds come from the same place.
Check the shape
Pickup turkeys with a well rounded breast! The rounder the breast the juicer the bird! Beware of flat spots, which is a clear sign of thawing and refreezing which can leas to foodborne illnesses.
It’s All About The Size
The smaller the bird the more tender your turkey will be! Also birds weighing between 18-20 lbs are much likelier to have been chemically treated.
Consider Free Range
Free range, cage free, free roaming are all good as it means the turkey had access to move around freely outdoors resulting in a more flavorful and leaner meat! Also keep in mind free range and organic is not the same thing and it doesn’t mean the turkey was raised without hormones.
Plan
Purchase your turkey far enough in advance so your bird can thaw properly. Rule of thumb allow one day for every 5 pounds. Now if you got your turkey last minute like I did because you lid yo yourself and others by stating you are not cooking this Thanksgiving 🤣🤣 get a better a bucket, cooler or kitchen sink and put wrapped turkey in cold water changing out the water periodically until turkey us thawed.
Be safe out there and blessings to each of you! In all things give God thanks.
Blessings,
