Let's deep dive into frogs here.. Toad Thumper Lure Co. Big v small (55mm) We've had the privilege to test out these JR frogs starting last summer and they've finally been released on www.toadthumperco.co and they've been a serious hit as well deserved.
The Swamper and Thumper, I'm throwing on a 7'6 Hvy Fast 40-65 lb braid on a high speed reel
The Swamper JR and Thumper JR, I'm throwing on a 7'3 MH Fast 40lb braid on a high speed reel
The 40lb braid allows you more control and leads to more action out of your frog.
Where I'm throwing the different sizes- When I'm trying to be louder, making a fish come to the lure & covering a larger area we're picking up the normal size. When I'm fishing heavily pressured areas, individual pockets of shade or holes & really picking apart an area then I'm going to the JR size.
These are just my general rules of thumb, each scenario can be a little different and weather plays a huge factor.
Colors- Spring time: Cloudy = Darker & Sunny = lighter
Summer time: Natural colors
Poppin v Walkin, all depends on the cover I'm around. More open water less vegetation I'm throwing the Swamper walking frog. Heavier cover and isolated targets I'm throwing the Thumper poppin frog.
The high quality hook and body shape stands these frogs apart, you're getting snagged less on the cover and less lost fish after the initial hook set because of the hook angle.
You can find these frogs online, in-store at Academy, Walmart and many other local tackle shops such as Lake Fork Resort.
Try them out and let me know what you think!
