Janus Tactical

Janus Tactical I have spent over twenty thousand hours working directly with shooters in a hands on environment. I help them to achieve the results they desire…guaranteed!

In my time on the range I have developed several successful methods for assessing my client's abilities and assisting them in overcoming their fears, perceptions, disabilities, and technical shortcomings. I provide them with simple and effective solutions that elevate their abilities to any level of ability that they desire. I accomplish this through a somewhat unorthodox approach to coaching. Man

y instructors take a very cookie cutter approach to educating their students. They focus almost solely on technique, often taking a drill sergeant type approach, utilizing whatever firearm and caliber that they prefer, and offering only large group classes. Personally, I have found this to be a rather poor way for most students to develop real marksmanship skills (at least at the beginner to intermediate skill levels). After observing the consistent results of large group structured training I have concluded that until a solid foundation built on proper fundamentals, time on the range, and proper execution of technique can be established, one on one training is superior in almost every way. I bring something different to the table than the average instructor. My students enjoy the benefits of me observing them as an individual. I start by helping my clients pick out a firearm that is the right gun for them. I listen to what their intended uses for the gun are and I help them find one that fits comfortably in their hands and that meets their needs and budget. Because there is such a huge selection in the current gun market it is important that I act as a guide to help my clients who are relatively new to shooting not to become overwhelmed by the sheer volume of choices, and keep them from become discouraged before they even get started. Then I work with them on learning the proper aspects of safety and the significance of the safety mindset. I then move to teaching proper shooting technique and shooting mechanics. I also I teach my clients about the significance of how the psychological, and physical aspects of the shooter effect accuracy and shooting mechanics. From there we move to the range and begin application of what has been learned thus far. I then help them to become comfortable doing something that can be extremely intimidating, or even downright scary. I show my clients that the shooting sports can be fun and enjoyable. I do my best to look at the whole picture, and teach my clients how to do the same.

As a trauma surgeon and a tactical medical specialist, I am often asked by law enforcement officers what caliber and type of handgun ammunition offers the most stopping power. I can't answer that question. Let me explain why.

Want to know why guns are not such a bad thing?
1. When he heard the dogs begin to growl, he ran back to get wasp spray which he used on the intruder with little success.
2. The wife originally came into the struggle armed with a baseball bat but that broke during the altercation.
3. 'When the husband was fighting with the intruder, the wife was the one that went and got the knife, and stabbed the intruder, trying to help her husband out,' said West.
It took several stabs of the knife to get Boonstra to stop fighting.
Now these are extremely fit people.
They went by all the same "rules" and "theories" that people who don't know s**t about violence spit out constantly about how you can arm yourself in a "less than lethal" fashion and still be effective.
I admire their courage to fight, but bottom line they got extremely lucky. Now people will think I'm an as***le for saying that, but let's examine the facts shall we?
1. Dog didn't do anything except serve as an alarm...but the barking and growling didn't deter the scumbag
2. Wasp spray was used to no real effect (he took time to run and get the spray...he could have got something vastly more effective, but it did not exist in that house)
3. Bat was used to no great degree of success, and broken rendering it useless (wife had to take time to go get that as well)
4. Their fitness level was great, but no fighting abilities greatly diminished the value of the fitness (at least as it applies to this scenario)
5. Only STABBING the scumbag with a kitchen knife MULTIPLE TIMES stopped him (and the wife had to leave to go retrieve the knife while the husband fought with the scumbag)
If the scumbag had been armed in any way, this scenario would have very likely played out in a vastly different and more horrible fashion. If said scumbag would have gotten in a lucky shot at any point in this altercation, the outcome would likely have been very different. If he had managed to gain an upper hand advantage in any way, this likely would have ended differently.
Again I'm not bagging on their courage, they had plenty of that. And kudos to them for it! It takes balls to stab a man to death! However, THESE PEOPLE WERE LUCKY on a DIVINE level. This whole altercation (at this level) could have been avoided by some preparedness and training.
Mostly in the idea that whether you like it or not, whether you want to accept it or not, whether you believe it or not, there are some people that are deranged enough that when they attack, they will not be stopped unless they are killed. And unfortunately if you are not prepared to do that very thing...you leave much of your life to chance.
You have to get real about the world people. Even though they are few in numbers, there are very real monsters in the world. And they cannot be deterred, reasoned with, bargained with, or bought off...they have to be put down, like the rabid monsters that they are.
Now go and train.

Ken Boonstra was stabbed to death by a 26-year-old woman while her husband attacked Boonstra in their North Bend, Washington home on May 13.
