Creston Friends of the Library (FOL)

In 2000, supporters of the Matilda Gibson Memorial Library in Creston formed Friends of the Library (FOL) organization. Over the years, the Friends of the Library have raised money for materials, programs, services and equipment for the Library. In addition, the Friends of the Library have been helpful in connecting and forming the community about the library and what it offers. The Friends of the Library has a Board of Directors and currently has 313 members. The Friends of the Library Board usually meets on the third Monday of each month in the Library at 6:30. Anyone interested is welcome to attend. The Friends of the Library is a 501(c)3 organization, meaning that donations are tax exempt. Some of the fundraisers that the Friends of the Library has traditionally done over the years are the Valentine’s Day Cookie Bouquets, the Scholastic Book Fair over July 4th, the Used Book Sale over Balloon Days, Christmas Baskets, and Photos with Santa, which we partner with Chamber of Commerce. The Friends of the Library has also frequently sponsored Humanities Iowa speakers on a variety of interesting topics. This year the Friends of the Library have grown by adding several new projects: a Garden Tour on June 12th and a Father’s day Raffle for meals, gasoline card, tools, and other items pertaining to Dad. The benefits of being a member of Friends of the Library are a three week check out period, three day extension on fines, a three day DVD/VHS checkout, and free admission to opening night of the Used Book Sale. Dues are $3.00 for a student, $5.00 for an individual, and $10.00 for a family. Annual memberships are from July 1 through June 30.
