Headpiece Class: Part 2! šŸ‘½āœØ

When I first saw Nadia’s ā€˜Alien Invasion’ headpiece design, I immediately thought of some neon fringe a friend had used in the past. I knew I wanted to take my design in a neon direction — especially with colors that would glow under a black light.

There weren’t any neon colors in the suggested paints … so I decided to make my own. I purchased clear holographic paint, mixed in powdered neon pigments (that I use for my royal icing), and tested it on an old piece of clear pool float. And guess what? It worked! šŸ™Œ

Classes like these take me right back to my fine art days at LSU. If you ever come across a class or experience that sparks your interest, take the chance and try it. You never know where a little creativity might take you! In the meantime, check out these other fun designs by Nadia and her Krewe.

šŸ‘½ Alien Invasion šŸ›ø

How about this headpiece?! This past weekend, I had the pleasure of taking Nadia Ramadan’s Faux Stained Glass headpiece class in NOLA.

I’ve long admired Nadia’s creations on Instagram (), so I was thrilled when she opened another workshop. Choosing a design was no easy task — Evil Eye, Swamp, or her newest design, Alien Invasion?! But once I saw that alien, my creative wheels started turning.

This was a completely new medium for me, and I had so much fun learning Nadia’s tips and tricks while dreaming up how to bring my design to life. I may have applied a little too much paint (lesson learned), but that’s all part of trying something new.

Thank you, Nadia, for such a fun and creative class! If you’re interested in taking one, I hear she may be opening another session in September or October — but don’t wait too long because those spots fill up fast.

šŸŽ Back-to-School Survival Kits! šŸŽ
To help with first day jitters, I like to send cookies with my boys to give to their teachers; however, this year we opted for something a little different. These cute little kits were fun to make, and hopefully can be kept in the teachers desk for any ā€œemergencyā€ they may have. If I do them again I may add a tide stick or a few bandaids. And yes, these vinyls also gave me trouble, so I guess it just isn’t my season for vinyl. šŸ’ā€ā™€ļø

Hey Teachers - what are some items you would like to see in this kit?

For Mother’s Day this year I painted some sun hats for the moms. They were a hit, so I made a few more for a girls weekend with a couple of my favorite ladies. šŸ’œ We’ve been buddies since college, so I added a few extra creations too. 😘

Fun fact: I took a picture of the hats, uploaded to Chat GPT, and requested the flower of choice mocked up on the side. (See last image.) I used this visual as a reference when painting the hat. For painting: I used a cheap acrylic/tempera for base, paint pens, puff paint, and sealed them with aqua net hairspray. (THE best paint and glitter sealer! šŸ’ā€ā™€ļø)

✨ Can’t forget the party favors! šŸ›¼

For this skate party, we chose f***y packs so the kids could wear them while skating.

The original plan was to add each name with vinyl, but we quickly learned that vinyl doesn’t love the slick, iridescent material.

After a little troubleshooting (and some ChatGPT help), we discovered UV DTF transfers would have been a better option.

A little trial and error, but that’s all part of the fun of creating!

One day a little boy dreamed a dream and his momma helped make it happen! (She did advise against some of the concept, but tried to keep the dream alive.) šŸ˜… Hawkins presents to you, chocolate cake with a cherry jello surprise.

He originally wanted a cake, but I was worried the jello would ooze out the sides. He suggested we line the cut out portions with melted chocolate, but eventually accepted my suggestion of cupcakes.

Happy Birthday dear Hawkins. I hope you always remember your jello surprise dream.
