Alright leather fam! What did we read or study in our bibles this week?
Whether you study frequently or not, whether you’re new or not, you’re welcome here. My hope is that we can grow together through sharing each Sunday. As always, kindness is required!
Earlier this year my kids and I memorized Psalm 23. This week my youngest asked me to read it again since we haven’t in a long time and I realized I was rusty already and needed to study it again.
Psalm 23 is written by David (David and Goliath David). The Lord is the shepherd, and we are the sheep. He leads us to good places but because of sin, we stray, like the sheep do.
📕 Story time!
In the spring time here, there are a few hundred sheep that live right around the corner from our house and I can say, they are CONSTANTLY escaping the field where their shepherd put them. One breaks out, and then some more follow, bringing a number of other sheep along with them. They make their way across the field to what appears to have better food. There is no fencing, no water, and really, the plants on the field are dried up. It takes no time at all before the shepherd has them all gathered up and they are pushing each other back through the narrow gate from where they strayed. Through the narrow gate is water, fence from danger, and food. Through the narrow gate they are close to their shepherd and monitored 24/7. Soon enough, one dumb sheep will get it in his mind that life is better outside the safety of the shepherds field and he will try to leave again. The process repeats itself. The good shepherd goes after them again and brings them home.
I can’t tell you how many times God has brought me back to him. I’m glad he continues to shepherd me even though I’m the dumb sheep that goes astray. We all are! He is the good shepherd.
For more info, I’d highly recommend reading “A Shepherd Look’s at Psalm 23” written by W. Phillip Keller. I truly didn’t realize how dumb sheep were until I read this, and then I understood how much people need Jesus.
