November blew in like a gust of wind, it always sneaks up on us as we are now in full preparation for the holiday season! Last week we featured some of our most popular Thanksgiving side dishes, this week we want to focus on breakfast/brunch options from our menu.

Our Sourdough Brioche Cinnamon Rolls have been described as “addictive”. They have a high ratio of brown sugar and cinnamon rolled inside. At the markets, they are filled with raisins and pecans, but you can customize them without those options when pre-ordering. Try these for your holiday brunch in an 8-pack or 4-pack.

Another holiday breakfast favorite is the Cranberry Orange Muffin. These muffins are loaded with chunks of fresh cranberries and pecans. Whole oranges are zested and squeezed into the batter. They are finished with a sprinkling of coarse sugar to give them the perfect muffin top!

Either of these items and more can be pre-ordered for pickup at the Herndon (Thursday) and Warrenton (Saturday) Farmers Markets this week. This is the final week for our market season, so feel free to order extra for later. Talk to us when picking up about the best ways to freeze items.

It’s time for all those ghosts and goblins to change into turkeys. It is hard to believe that November is already upon us! The markets are closing, but don’t worry, our bakery is always taking orders for pickup.

This week we are featuring two of our most popular side dish options for Thanksgiving. It seems there are two schools of thought on bread at the big meal — rolls or corn. We can help either way!

Chunker’s Sourdough Cloud Rolls are reminiscent of Hawaiian Rolls, but not quite as sweet. The have a very mild sourdough flavor and compliment so many dishes. They come in a ready-to-heat tin. Warmed in the oven and sitting next to the turkey is where they want to be!

Or, try the Corn Muffins for a sweet bite with that bird. These muffins are loaded with corn kernels and can be used as a side on their own or made into a delicious cornbread dressing. They can also be customized with jalapeños and cheddar cheese for that extra kick to get you off the couch after the long game.

Why not both? Pre-orders for pickup at our bakery are open for the week of Thanksgiving. We expect to fill up for pickups on Tuesday and Wednesday that week, so get your orders in early. Our popular Sourdough Pumpkin Loaf will be available along with our Sourdough Brioche Cinnamon Rolls.

We will be back at the Herndon Farmers Market this week on November 2nd, for one of the last market days. Our last visit to the Warrenton Farmers Market will be November 11th, items ordered for that day can be frozen and saved for your special holiday celebrations.

Ready for some Halloween fun at Chunker’s Bakery? Do the monster mash with some chocolatey goodness. We have put together a special Fall Sampler Brownie Box for all your spooky events. The box includes 6 Sourdough Brownies, with the following flavors: Red Velvet Cheesecake, Caramel Cookie, and the Chunker’s Signature.

These brownies are so good, the mummies will be coming out of their tombs to grab them up. The Red Velvet Cheesecake is an indulgent brownie swirled with a sweetened cream cheese topping. The Caramel Cookie is filled with crushed Biscoff cookies and topped with gooey caramel. The Chunker’s Signature is loaded with cookies and cream crumbles and chopped up peanut butter cups. Each little ghoul will get to pick their favorite. If you need smaller pieces, we offer a double cut option.

We had a blast in the drizzly weather this past Saturday at the Warrenton Farmers Market. Despite the clouds and a little water, lots of guests showed up and were hungry! We are so glad we could be there to help.

Going to the markets has taught us that customers love variety, each household needs food to fit their specific needs. Chunker’s Bakery is here to help by offering different sizes available at the market for select products. These items are only found at the market, but others can be pre-ordered in advance for pickup there. The half-pound Sourdough Focaccia is one item and has been a hit so far, small families love the option of a loaf of bread they can finish in one sitting. We always have the 1-pound loaf at the market, but we also have a 2-pound loaf available on our website for pre-order and pickup if you have a few more mouths to feed.

Another item offered in a variety of sizes at the market is the Sourdough Brioche Cinnamon Roll Pack. Stop by our table and find them in an 8-pack, 4-pack, or single. Pre-orders of the multi-packs are available if you desire them without raisins or pecans. If there are ever questions, feel free to reach out about the different varieties and we will do our best to accommodate.

Superfoods unite! In the past we have talked about the health benefits of sourdough bread. It is easier to digest, a good source of prebiotics, and reduces inflammation - need we say more? We have combined it with another superfood, pumpkin. Pumpkin is rich in potassium, vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants. These are essential to our bodies, and seem like they were meant to be together.

Chunker’s Bakery is now offering, during our fall seasonal menu, a Sourdough Pumpkin Loaf. We have combined the delicious and nutritious flavors of sourdough and pumpkin to create this beauty. It is the perfect addition to a fall menu at home. It shines on the table with the beautiful shape and scoring to match this seasonal gourd. It is flavored with traditional pumpkin spices and another superfood has been added in for color, turmeric! It is a savory treat. Enjoy this loaf during October and November before it leaves our menu until next year.

We won’t be at the Herndon Farmers Market this week, but look forward returning on October 19th.

Spooky season is upon us, and we have a surprise for you that is anything but a trick! We have been stretching ourselves and working on a whole new concept for your taste buds. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Announcing Chunker’s Bakery Sourdough Pizza Crust. Our rustic pizza crusts are par-baked and available to take home and make your own wild creations. Par-baked means they are fully baked, but not browned, so you have the opportunity to top them with whatever your heart desires and then pop it in the oven until it is nice and bubbly. It takes about 9-10 minutes until your masterpiece is ready for consumption. These pizza crusts make dinner easy and fun, as the whole family can make one with whatever their favorite toppings are. Each crust feeds about 1-2 people, depending on your appetite.

If you are looking for pizza inspirations, here are some from our household:

- Margherita - topped with diced tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and sprinkled with fresh basil when it comes out of the oven
- Hawaiian - tomato sauce, mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, ham, and pineapple (onion optional)
- Everything in the fridge - tomato sauce, pepperoni, bacon, mushrooms, fresh tomatoes, mozzarella (really anything you find that you like, it is a great way to use up some extras)

We loved delivering our breads and treats to you on this rainy weekend. Thanks for helping us with our extra supply from the rained-out market. We enjoyed it so much, we might just offer delivery service again. Who would be in for that on a monthly basis?

As we were driving around, we started to think about the origins of sourdough. This bread is one of the most natural baked goods around! Sourdough is the original method for making leavened bread. It was first used in ancient Egypt, and was the only way to make bread rise until a few centuries ago when commercial yeast was created. The basic method for making sourdough bread hasn’t changed much over the years. What a classic.

Chunker’s Classic Sourdough Boule is the most versatile thing on the menu! It can be sliced, diced, or ripped apart and enjoyed in so many ways. This loaf is a wonderful companion to any meal, or a great mid-day snack. There isn’t much that is more comforting than a toasted slice of classic sourdough with a smear of butter melting through those open crumb holes. Diced up, this bread makes an amazing Panzanella salad (Italian bread salad). Or just enjoy it by ripping off pieces and dipping into your favorite game time spread.

We have a limited-time item available this week only - fresh Blackberry Muffins. September 29th is the feast day Michaelmas. Legend tells us that this is when Archangel Michael cast Lucifer out of heaven. When he fell from heaven, he landed on a thorny blackberry bush and in a fit of rage he spit on it, causing the blackberries to sour and become inedible. Thus, we mark the archangel’s triumph and the end of blackberry season with these delicious Blackberry Muffins!

The weather lately has our family longing for warm comforting meals. As we transition into the real Fall this week, the temperatures are cooperating slightly. We all know Virginia weather is not be trusted, but at least we are getting a glimpse of cooler days this week. This is the perfect time to enjoy some sourdough deliciousness with your meals.

Chunker’s Sourdough Focaccia is the ultimate companion to soup, pasta, and hearty salads. The Sourdough Focaccia goes well with spaghetti, sopping up that extra sauce in your bowl. If you are simmering up your favorite soup, enjoy this loaf alongside, you won’t be able to resist a dip! Our family especially loves this bread for breakfast sandwiches, it slices up easily and holds your favorite ingredients, from fried eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, and cheese - make it your own.

Fabulous farmers market dinner! Our Sourdough Sandwich Rolls were complimented with BBQ Pulled Pork from and slathered with Poppi’s KC Supreme BBQ Sauce courtesy of . Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the wonderful support at the markets this week. It was a busy week with two markets and juggling the schedules of 3 active kids, but we did it! We appreciate all of the smiling faces we saw, some familiar and some new. We can’t wait to keep building these relationships.

Featured this week is our Sourdough Sandwich Loaf. This thing may be the shape of the tesseract from the Marvel movies, but it is much tastier! It is one of the most versatile products that come out of our ovens. It has a creamy texture and is sweetened by a dash of honey. Slice it up for a delicious breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Hello Chunkers Nation! This week our special features are our Sourdough Sandwich Rolls, Jalapeño Cheddar Corn Muffins, and Pumpkin Muffins. These treats are perfect for welcoming Fall and the football season!

First up, we have Sourdough Sandwich Rolls, these buns are great for barbecue and burgers. Celebrate your football team's win with some Chunker’s rolls!

Next up on the list, we have Jalapeño Cheddar Corn Muffins! These muffins are great with chili, and one of our family favorites. We also sell these in mini sizes, they work perfectly for parties and gatherings.

And lastly, but certainly not least, is the Pumpkin Muffin! These are the right snack for the entering Fall season, and the celebration of Halloween and Thanksgiving. They can be made with chocolate chips or dates!

This week we celebrate one year of “What’s Baking this Week at Chunker’s”. We love staying in touch and keeping you updated on happenings at the bakery and we’re so thankful for everyone who’s joined us throughout the year. Did you miss a past issue? They’re all on our website under the Stories section - we hope you have the chance to check it out and stick with us for many years to come!

Commemorating this first year, we highlight one of the original items from our menu, and the inspiration for our logo, the Morning Glory Muffin. This special treat is packed with carrots, apples, and raisins - it’s the breakfast equivalent to a carrot cake without the cream cheese frosting. If you want to sneak some extra fruits and vegetables into your diet, the Morning Glory Muffin is the way to go! Enjoy it for breakfast and get 3 of those 5 fruits and vegetables in before your day even begins.

Another favorite from the original menu is the Cinnamon Apple Streusel Muffin. Apples make the perfect fall snack. With apple season approaching, we look for reasons to munch on this classic treat. Each of these muffins is filled with chunks of apple and topped with a buttery cinnamon streusel that will get you in the mood to decorate for the season.

One of the newer additions to the menu, but a long time favorite, is the sweet Honey-Raisin Bran Muffin which is loaded with chunks of golden and red raisins mixed with wheat bran. We know what you’re thinking, bran equals dry! Chunker’s has gone through many trails to find the perfect blend of ingredients to keep these muffins moist and tasty. It will satisfy your appetite and get you ready to take on the day.

We welcome in a new school year this week. The crisp new folders, sharpened pencils, and clean backpacks help us all transition from our summer days to school days. Chunker’s also has delicious sourdough bakes to help make the transition a little easier.

Join us for first period as we slice up a Multigrain Seeded Sourdough Boule. Breakfast can’t get any easier, or nutritious, thanks to this bread. Toast up a few slices and top them with your favorite spread. The seeds and grains in each bite will keep your belly full and last all the way until snack time.

As second period begins, grab a handful of Sourdough Crackers to munch on while you catch up with friends or your math assignments. With so many flavors to choose from, including Rustic Italian, Sesame Seed, Black Pepper, and Everything Bagel, there is a tasty snack for everyone.

Third period, and our favorite of the day, is that after school treat, a Sourdough Brownie. Sweeten up the afternoon with a rich and chocolatey brownie from Chunker’s. These brownies will help get your kids talking. Ask them about their day while eating one and wait for all the gooey details to spill out.

The start of school is just around the corner. This means schedules get busier, and calendars get crowded. Let’s get back to basics with our meals - good, healthy, and easy! Did you know bread that is naturally fermented (aka Sourdough) is easier to digest?

Chunkers offers a delicious Sourdough Sandwich Loaf that slices up for so many things. It has a creamy texture with a hint of honey. We love it for breakfast toast with jam. Kids (and parents) can enjoy a tasty sandwich for lunch with bread that is made with natural ingredients. Or, grab a couple slices and make a melty panini for dinner. So many yummy options!

The Classic Sourdough Boule has been a summer favorite. It is made the way sourdough should be - with flour, water, and salt. Simple, yet delicious ingredients. The long fermentation process helps break down gluten in the flour making it healthier for your gut and giving it that sweet tangy flavor.

For a more complex bite, try the Multigrain Seeded Sourdough Boule. This bread is filled with chunks of goodness - wheat, oats, rye, barley, flax, chia, sunflower, and quinoa. Is it just us, or does it feel like summer is coming to an end. August always brings a mix of emotions along with the humidity. Parents start spending money on school supplies and dreaming of days with their kids occupied by trained professionals. Kids get sad thinking about getting up early, but excited to see friends they have lost touch with over the summer. Don’t let it slip away so fast, enjoy some of Chunker’s summer flavors before school starts.

Bananas and chocolate chips are an epic combination. Chunker’s is now offering Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins. These muffins please adults and kids with their boost of fruit mixed with sweet chocolate chips throughout. No monkeying around with these, they will disappear fast! You can order them online and also find them at the Elden Street Tea Shop in downtown Herndon.

Another classic summer flavor is Lemon Poppy Seed. These bright lemony flavored muffins have a nice blend of tartness and sweetness to please all your taste buds. Hint, we use the zest in our mix to give that extra boost of lemon zing! Those black poppy seeds provide the perfect texture to each bite with a little crunch, just don’t forget to check your teeth afterwards.

Blueberries have been abundant this year, so pick up a pack of our Blueberry Muffins to snack on any time of day. We use only fresh blueberries in our muffins and sprinkle them with a cinnamon streusel. These classic muffins pair great with your morning coffee or tea.
