We’re on a tight rope.

We did not get the news we were hoping and praying for today and again, left with many unanswered questions.

So here is what we do know.

Completing tandem transplants is part of the treatment protocol for high risk neuroblastoma. High risk neuroblastomas have a high risk of recurrence….and there is no cure for a neuroblastoma that returns.

We also know the transplants are not to be taken lightly, especially the second transplant- it is substantially more arduous and aggressive than the first.

The tandem transplants have proven to increase the chance of survival in children with high risk neuroblastoma.

Read that again.

“Increase the c h a n c e of survival.”
Not increase survival.
Increase the chance.

That c h a n c e, that h o p e

is currently in jeopardy.

We did not get a definitive answer as to whether or not we will be able to proceed. We are currently in a risk verse benefit discussion with all of the members of Emerson’s care team. This may take a few days before we have a decision. The timeline within the protocol to receive this second transplant is nearing its end.

The thought of losing Emerson leaves me breathless.

I have felt this breathlessness more times than I can count over the last 14 days.

And that’s all I can even muscle the strength to say right now.

So we ask for more prayer. We ask that the team, including Alex and I, can all come to a unanimously safe and effective treatment decision about what our next steps should be.

Our daughters life depends on it.

As we walk this rope, any slight gust of wind or a gaze that loses focus could alter the outcome greatly.

Pray for eyes forward and steady feet.

We lay our pleas before You.
