It’s been a BUSY couple of months around here, and as we head toward the biggest baking season of the year, I’ve decided that taking the next two weeks off is imperative. 🤍

If I’ve learned one thing in my 30s, it’s knowing my limits. Learning that rest IS productive. Rest is not lazy. And that sometimes the best thing you can do is step away before you reach burnout, rather than waiting until you’re completely depleted.

That is something I can confidently say I never practiced in my 20s. 😂

So, over the next two weeks, there will still be a little Soulshine happening behind the scenes — bakery maintenance, oiling my butcher block work tables, testing some new recipes, dreaming up what’s next… and most importantly, taking some actual days completely away from the bakery.

Because this little business means so much to me, and I want to keep showing up for it with the same joy and energy that I had when I started. 🫶🏼

And when I come back… WE’RE CELEBRATING TWO YEARS OF SOULSHINE. 🥹🍞✨

Another great week in the bakery! 🍞🤎 And then, as soon as that oven shut off, it was straight into birthday mode. 🎂🎈

My daughter and I share a birthday, and on Friday our sweet girl turned SIX! 🥹💕 We spent the weekend celebrating her and soaking up all the fun, and it was absolutely perfect.

Life has been full lately, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Thank you, as always, for being here, supporting this little bakery, ordering bread, sharing my posts, and cheering me on. It truly means more than you know. 🤎

Now… back to the bread! 🍞✨

Another week in the bakery 🤎

Things felt really good in the bakery this week… while things behind the scenes were, well… a little chaotic 😂

After all the big storms and rain we had this week, we ended up with water in our basement — our first time ever navigating water in our home. And of course, it had to happen in the room we had just completely finished redoing. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Because apparently that’s how life works sometimes!

But hey, it’s life. We’ll figure it out, clean it up, fix what needs fixing, and keep moving forward. ❤️

In happier news, here are a few of my favorite little bread gremlins! 🥖🤎

I’ve also been making and freezing homemade Uncrustables with my soft sourdough sandwich loaf for my daughter’s lunches, and they have been a HUGE hit. 🙌🏻 Honestly, anything that makes school mornings a little easier is a win in my book!

And next week is birthday week around here because my daughter and I share a birthday! 🎂🎉 Sooo… maybe we’ll celebrate with a little giveaway?! 👀

September. 🤍
Not only is it my birthday month, but September is also Su***de Prevention Month, and I wanted to take this opportunity to share a little piece of my story.

Soulshine Sourdough was built out of a need—a need to keep my hands busy, my mind occupied, and my heart a little calmer. And honestly, it has done exactly that for me.

I’ve struggled with the depths of depression. I’ve experienced weeks of nonstop panic attacks. I’ve been in some really dark places. I’ve been hospitalized. I’ve reached the point where I didn’t want to be here anymore.

I kept going.

I found something that gave me purpose. Something I could pour my energy into when my mind felt like it was working against me. Something that started as a way to keep myself busy and became so much more than that.

This bakery is a piece of my healing.
And every single order, every loaf, every person who tells me they loved something I made—it means more to me than you probably realize. You’re not just supporting a small business. You’re supporting something that helped me find my way through some really hard seasons. 🤍

So, in honor of Su***de Prevention Month, I want to share this message:

I want to acknowledge how hard you have fought to still be here. Even though times have been hard, the fact that you’re still here is what counts. I’m proud of you and you should be too. This month isn’t only for the ones who aren’t here anymore, but also for the ones who survived. You’re not alone. Stay strong.

If you’re struggling right now, please stay. Tell someone. Reach out. Let someone sit with you in the hard parts. You don’t have to carry it alone.

And if you’re reading this and you’ve fought your own battles just to make it to today—I’m proud of you. 🫶🏻

Here’s to another September, another year, another season of choosing to stay. 🌻

Another week in the books, and what a great one it was. 🤍

The first picture is pretty much what Thursday evenings look like around here—me, sitting down to work on next week’s menu with a glass of my newest hobby… homemade kombucha. 🍹 By the end of bake day, I’m completely exhausted, and hanging up my apron always feels like crossing the finish line for the week.

This week, 41 different customers ordered from Soulshine Sourdough, and it honestly blows me away. Every single week this little home bakery continues to grow, and it’s all because of you.

I’m already looking into purchasing a second bakery fridge so I can keep up with production and continue saying “yes” as more of you find your way here. It’s exciting (and a little surreal!) to think about what’s next.

One of the best compliments I can receive is hearing that someone ordered because a friend or family member told them about my bread. That kind of word-of-mouth support means more than I can put into words. Thank you for loving what I make enough to share it with others. 🫶

I’ve got some big goals for Soulshine Sourdough, and every share, recommendation, comment, and order helps me get one step closer. So if you’ve been enjoying your bread, keep sending people my way. I truly couldn’t do this without this amazing community.
