Valentine’s Day has once again rolled around... memories of treasured days gone by slowly tip-toe in like quiet waves upon a perfectly sandy brown shore. Elementary school days are definitely rooted in my heart. ♥️
Red, pink, and white construction paper - Elmers glue - empty tissue boxes, you were only limited by your imagination when it came to creating a masterpiece in which to collect Valentines from your school mates. Those were the simple days. ♥️ &Mrs.Runkle &Mrs.Alexander ♥️? ♥️valentinesday 🙋🏼‍♀️

‘Tis the season for pondering seeds.
Vegetable seeds. Flower seeds. Herb seeds. Jack and his beanstalk seeds.
And ... the infamous watermelon seed I accidentally swallowed as a elementary-school child. It was a blissful, ideal summery day. The sky was that dream-filled blue, the sun rays lay to rest gently on every thing it could reach. The grass was that original green that we all admire in our first box of Crayola’s. I don’t exactly remember the watermelon I had consumed that day BUT .... I remember that seed. Grandpa Brandt was visiting and his spoken words have remained.
“You’re going to have to drink a lot of water now, and stand with your mouth wide open in the sun for that seed to grow.”
I remember the slow pondering my mind turned over and over, and over. I admit, I was concerned at the time. I do enjoy watermelon! Grandpa Brandt had a sense of humor, so,it seems.
That watermelon seed spurred more pondering, 40+ years later. The “seeds” we select and plant in our everyday are the plants and fruit we harvest in our future.
Do we give proper attention to our seed selection?
The seeds I plant in the spring are my harvest come summertime.

From my lovely, old-papery smelling Winston Dictionary For Schools ... 950+ pages, dated 1939. “Gratitude AND praise to God” and right above that entry is “thanksgiving” ... words to ponder on this special day, set aside &honored.

Strawberry Fields 🍓
Last year I tried growing this interesting flower from seed but no such luck. This year, however...success.🍓 From tiny seeds these unusual beauties have more than delivered. The plants are continually blooming and providing pops of red along the garden edge. At this time of the season, they are 2o+ inches tall. I cut them for flower arrangements &they just keep going. I am marking them as a win-win...even a bit neglected and still going strong.🍓

AuburnFarmers Market is tomorrow!
7am till 1pm
West side of the DeKalb County CourtHouse

The calendar declares it to be September...🤔but I think ole Mother Nature missed the memo. 🥳 Nevertheless, I baked some autumnish delights to maybe sway things to cooler temperatures. Maple Pecan Cookies, Pear Pie with a lovely lattice top, and Oatmeal Scotchies. I will also have Apple Pies, Peach Pies, Cherry Danishes, Snickerdoodles, HoneyVanilla Chamomile Tea Cookies, and Gramma’s Thumbprints. Produce is a hodgepodge (because evidently the garden got the Autumn Memo😉). I have picked Corbaci Peppers, Jalapeños, Poblano, Lemon Squash, Butterstick Squash, Swiss Chard, Spaghetti Squash, tomatoes in small amounts...and pumpkins. The Jarrahdale are a blueish green color. My seed provider says they can be eaten& Lynne the SoapQueen has told me delightful tales of her Mother making a pumpkin into a soup bowl& actually baking it in the oven or something. The idea of such a feast makes me want an invitation to such a supper.♥️ I also have a few CottonCandy pumpkins, those are white. Then there are the adorable SmallSugar pumpkins, orange&perfectly shaped. I do have a few ornamental gourds called Daisy. They are quirky and would add a special touch to any table, to announce Fall. 🍂 Then Farmer did get the Cucamelons picked. Every Friday after work he has been faithful to his task. He stands on a short ladder & even a 5gallon bucket to pluck all those adorable cucumbers. Jams& Jelly’s are also available as well as Aloe Plants&crocheted items. StuffMY Paws dog treats will also be on hand. 🐶

Get your rest, set your alarms ⏰ &rise early to greet your Saturday with a visit to the Market. See you tomorrow!

I use to think Heaven would smell like raspberries &cranberries simmering on the stovetop for Thanksgiving...I’ve changed my mind. Now I will tell you Heaven probably will have the smell of fresh dill wafting along on a gentle breeze.♥️ There’s a word for your Friday! Wafting. Words have such power to provoke great feelings of warm and comfort but also disaster&gloom. I DO love a good ole old dictionary. My current dictionary dates back to 1936. He is a Winston Dictionary For Schools and weighs almost 3 pounds. Winston is a beautiful tealish-green...his pages smell of a good ole wooden church pew.♥️ From Heaven&Dill to a ‘38dictionary that smells like a church pew...quite a interesting start to a Market post, aye!😁
But...Dill is a lovely scent when it is fresh& growing in the sunshine and soil. Fresh dill makes awesome tarter sauce and even makes the hum-drum of a tuna& mayo sandwich all the more delightful. Trust me. Dill fresh is something to savor.😉
September is here, so hard to believe. Things are beginning to wind down in the garden and thankfully even the grass has quit growing at a pace that can finally be enjoyed (instead of being looked upon as another unpleasant chore to be done). The garden pickings are a hodgepodge...cans of flowers, cock’sComb (a flower-ish thingy to behold, indeed), cucamelons, jalapeños,corbaci sweet peppers, poblanos, pool ball squash, ONE zucchini (bless his heart!), Swiss chard bundles, spaghetti squash, cucumbers, lemon cucumbers, eggplant fingers &frog eyes, A pumpkin 🎃, ornamental gourds, green tomatoes, banana peppers, snack size tomatoes (yellow pear+ chocolate pear + honey delights+Juane flamme & one paste tomato that gave a lot of effort) and a few fresh sage stems.
Baked goodness includes: pies 🍑 🍎, dark chocolate chips cookies, cranberry &mandarin scones, strawberry danishes and a N.E.W. tea cookie... HoneyVanilla&Chamomile.🥳 This one might just be my favorite-favorite. Jams and Jelly’s will also be available along with little gift items. I will also have some AloePlants! They are looking beautiful &always a must when you burn yourself while cooking. StuffMY Paws dog treats will also be waiting for all your pups. 🐶

No Market for me tomorrow... I have a special appointment to keep with an extra special little grandson.😉 ANd since there is no baked goods or produce to list, I thought I might share a peek into my past. I went on the hunt for a photo that included me in a garden as a child. Not much luck. I did, however, find one of me and my sister modeling our aprons.♥️ I guess I have enjoyed them from WAy back then. Totally makes sense why I consider them an everyday thing. I even came across a photo of a good ole pile of green beans on our kitchen table with me and my 2 sisters workin’ on our bean snappin’ skills. My second sister has always been a funny, make-you-laugh-so-hard kind of entertainment. My 3rd sister however....she looked quite perturbed at the chore in general.🤣 Which is even funnier to me this week because I have pestered her about green beans! I even texted her oldest who happens to be the ring leader of ThreeSister’s Farm. I think my 3rd sibling is avoiding me.🧐😂 But, atlas...this photo kept coming back to me. Just taking it all in...and I got caught by the camera. I was 4. Those were the days when life was simple. Sunshiny days were the best. Fresh cut grass was the smell of summer and grape popsicles, the taste of summer &of course, kool-aid was the drink of queens, especially if in a Tupperware plastic cup.♥️ Eating lunch outside was like an instant party....MMmmm peanut butter&grape jelly sandwiches where the jelly seeps through the top of your bread. My Mamabear stayed at home with all of us...there are 5, ya know. Daddy was always gone before we opened our eyes to the day. But when he got home from work, we’d hear his green van stop at the top of the driveway and we’d ALL come running out the back, white aluminum screen door, no shoes on...right over hot patio cement&up the driveway with tiny stones prickling our feet& there he’d sit with the mail, in his van seat with the door wide open. One by one we’d hop on in and the last one got to ‘drive’ down the short drive on his lap. Seriously, not a long driveway!😂 Then once parked by the 2door garage, we’d ALL pile out and follow him into the house like little yellow fuzzy ducks. Daddy would smooch and squeeze on Mamabear...all was right with the world.♥️ Childhood should be simple and home-y...and filled with a reflection of love. When I return to Market in September, I would love to hear about your favorite childhood memory. What kool-aid flavor brought a swell to your heart&a smile to your face? Were popsicles your favorite summery treat? How’d you pass your sunshiny summer days? Chucky, Linda and Heather lived next door with their little dog Bandit. They’d come over, knock on our door& ask if we could come out to play. And play we did, all the live-long day. 💁🏼‍♀️Bandit though, that little white dog that ran like the wind is another story, trust me.
Enjoy Market tomorrow. Be purposeful in soaking in the day and listen intently for those sounds that reflect a simpler day gone by.♥️

Oh the Majesty of the SUNflower 🎶
Bright petals as radiant as a perfect summer day.
Always following the sun, east to west.
The subtle center that draws little attention yet feeds the bee’s.
Once it’s life is complete it continues to give goodness to birds...
&come next spring,
she will once again reward us with new starts from fallen seed. 🌻

Auburn Farmers Market is tomorrow...7am TIL 1pm.

Baking is complete and packaged, ready to tempt you and silently beg to be taken home &enjoyed with family & friends. Produce has been picked and loaded up. The colors of a productive garden are a sight to take in. I even took time to cut flowers. The SalmonAsters really knocked themselves out this week, the prettiest of pinks.
Baked goods include: Apple &Peach Pies, Snickerdoodles, Apricot Scones, Rugelach, Danishes (blueberry &cherry), CreamCheese Sugar Cookies Stars, and a few little loaves of CinnamonRaisin Swirl Bread.
Homegrown&picked produce includes: cucamelons, cucumbers (lemon& regular), banana peppers, corbaci sweet peppers, poblanos, jalapeños, frog eyes&finger eggplants, butterstick squash, lemon squash, pool ball squash AND.... t.o.m.a.t.o.e.s. 🍅
How does 10varieties sound?!?🥳 I do love tomatoes. 🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅
There will also be jams and jellies, individual crocheted washcloths or a gift-giving option that includes a sweet smelling bar of soap. Do you remember those towels that you’d wipe your hands on at gramma’s house that had a crocheted top and hung neatly on her oven handle? I actually wiped my face off on my GrammaBrandt’s. 🤫😂 It sure was a handy thing! I could dash by, clear the evidence of a bite of cake&dash off without even a glance. If you are missing such a memory from your own oven handle, I have put some together in different towel designs. StuffMY Paws whipped up another batch of the LickYA Chops Bacon treats. The Pumpkin&PeanutButter dog treats will also be available. 🐾
See you tomorrow.🌻
