Lemme tell y’all how God werks…not only were Chris and Robert in the same facility together, they have the same legal team. Then both of their names were on the same list I was given in 2020.

For nearly six years, I really didn’t know my strength. I had no idea how much—if at all—I meant to my guys. I was just showin’ up in their lives as me. No pretenses. When Mama D Denice Joyce-Bronis introduced me to Tara Thompson, I IMMEDIATELY recalled how Chris kinda got me in trouble soon as we met and won me a conference call with his team 😩🤣☠️.

In that moment, Tara said something that made me feel seen and heard, “When I heard Esther, Nelson and the other advocates speak, it made me more aware of the caring/emotional aspect to this work and I’d like to see more of that input in future conferences.” Suddenly the lights 💡came on. I no longer saw myself and La Matriz Bakery as playing an optional and auxiliary role in this movement. In fact, my trademark sweetness, sensitivity, personal touch and humor are VERY necessary.

Soooooo…let’s unpack real quick: I wasn’t gonna go to the conference. My Innocent Demand Justice NOW familia insisted that we be present as a unit. Being a single adoptive mom with hella responsibilities, I told them the ticket price was a no. They said they got me on that. I’m so used to shrinking myself, playin’ da background and putting the rest first that I refused the offer. The pushback was REAL. LOL!

Accepting the gift was humbling. I would’ve easily done it for someone, but couldn’t envision it being done for me. I’ve never been arrested. I’m not an attorney. I don’t have an immediate blood tie to the movement. I’m a small batch baker who advocates. I’m simply me.

When I walked into the Hyatt last Friday night, I was SO grateful that they sowed into me and made sure that I was in the room—that I was in a seat at the table.

Before the , Chris was rapidly rising in the music industry. He was signed to The Game’s label and about to hit the studio. He was abducted from his three young daughters, his grandmother and his younger sister. He’s been gone 23 years, but they can’t keep him forever. I can’t wait for him to come home and witness him go from to impacting the world with his music.

The 2nd quarts of 2026 finds me getting back on track with my work. I finally opened up the gift from . I knew they were sending a 2 lb bag of yeast. The packets of platinum yeast were a beautiful surprise! 😍🥰 The possibilities for my giving are as infinitely endless as my gratitude.
