La Matriz Bakery is a small batch company based in Chicago’s Rosemoor community which is adjacent to the Pullman and Roseland communities in the 60628 area. We use our platform to focus on four social issues: restorative justice, recidivism, food apartheid and food waste. Our urban farm-to-

table initiative partners with the Exoneration Project to hire exonerees upon their release from prison. We also hire ex-offenders as there is a direct correlation between food apartheid and recidivism. Our work will rebuild those lives along with the Rosemoor community which is plagued by food apartheid.
