My sourdough journey started a little differently than I expected 🩷
I originally tried making my own starter with just flour and water… but I couldn’t quite get that strong, active fermentation I was hoping for.
Around that same time, my fiancé was working in Nashville and staying at an Airbnb. The sweetest host there baked sourdough and offered to send me some of her starter—along with a full guide, recipes, and everything I needed to begin.
She shared that the starter had been passed down for generations, possibly over 200 years old, connected to her grandmother who also baked. I couldn’t believe something like that just found its way to me.
I’ll be honest… I let it sit for almost 2–3 weeks before even touching it because I was so nervous I would ruin it 😅
But once I started, I slowly learned everything through trial, patience, and consistency. It took me about 8 months to really understand timing, fermentation, dough temperature, and even how my oven behaves.
Now, every loaf that comes out of my kitchen is something I’m truly proud of. My family says it’s “the best sourdough they’ve had in a really long time,” and that means everything to me 🤍
Sourdough has taught me patience, care, and the beauty of doing things the traditional way.
